After discovering a rod knock I'm stuck deciding if I wanna do a rod and piston build or a 5.2 build. What is everyone doing for their motor builds in the 800-1000whp range?

yeah, I am not liking that either. What was the car running as far a fuel when it blew?

Do different types of fuel make anything more likely to happen even if making similar power to lower octane fuels?

I was in pump gas tune driving to work and when I pulled up to a car beside me I heard a tapping echo off his car and when I pulled into work that's when I noticed the knock. Not bummed because I know it was going to happen eventually. Oil pressure and temp was also normal and I was running amsoi full syn. With mmr opg

Damn, that stinks. Sorry to hear that. I will be in the same boat i'm sure just waiting for something to happen. I am going into this expecting to do a build at some point so will be following what you end up doing. Good luck!

If I was to build a 5.2 with the flat plane crank. Will the factory ecu fire in that order or will I need a standalone

What was your RPM limiter set at and how high/hard have your revved the car?

I ask because rod knock like you have is normally due to excessive RPM and not enough oil to lubricate the crank resulting in a rod bearing being stripped.

I think you are actually lucky and have not yet spun a rod bearing otherwise you'd be getting low oil pressure warning and even louder rod knock. In short you could simply get away with a set of new shells and bolts if no crank damage is evident and be good to go. :)

sorry to hear about your engine. Not sure what caused the failure, but at that amount of boost you should be very safe. I gues now you can build a bullet proof set up. Good luck.

You would need to rewire your injectors and coils to fire in the right order with the stock ecu, you will also need gt350 cams but i imagine you already know that.

Looks like you only need to rewire every other cylinder
