This might be very interesting to some of you guys who like me. Did mods and didn't feel they were doing the same for you as others. Anyway. I have a buddy that has a 3.55 Auto car just like me with the same CAI and tune. He started throwing codes and took the car in for service. After two days of looking they replaced his spark plugs. They also told him that the gap on the plugs was way off from the assembly line. He was trapping 111-112 before the plug change and 115-116 after. My car was not throwing codes but also seamed stuck in the 112 trap speed even after I had added a CAI & tune. So I took my spark plugs out and regapped them. They were also quite a bit off from the factory. Correct gap is supposed to be .041 to .045! The factory gapped plugs were .055 to .058! Well long story short. I ran the car again tonight and picked up 3/10ths and almost 3 mile per hour. The car is now trapping 115 from a simple re gap of the spark plugs.:frusty:

The Ecoboost is the same way. Adam started a thread in the EB section a few months back.

Good info, might just pick up a new set of NGK plugs while I am down there.

This was pretty common with the Focus ST also, the factory gap was off or the plugs were too hot from the factory. A lot of guys were regapping or replacing them with one step colder on a stock car or two steps colder with a tune.

Are you serious?? Guess I'm heading to advanced auto for a spark plug gapper. Thanks for the heads up!

Here's how big a difference it made. The slow slip was from last Tuesday and the faster slip from last night. These are the best slips from both outings.Weather was about the same on both runs.

What would be the purpose for such a larger gap from ford? Did you check the head temperature before and after, just wondering.

I think what ever gap they are from the spark plug manufacture is what they are thrown in at the assemble line. Fords going thru thousands of plugs a day and just doesn't check them before they install the plugs.

Wait, so you ran 12.11 on stock tires with a tune and cai? That's moving son! I going check my plugs shortly.

That 1.82 60ft does not scream factory tires.. but could be. Great times regardless for few mods.
