Let me first say that this car was amazing, but before I begin... let me give you a little background. I start racing 10 years ago in a 2002 GT and then upgraded to a 1966 Mustang where I won a couple championship with NASA.
Ok, so I was a little nervous to drive this car since there are hardly any parts for it yet like brake pads. Really? Yes. I was able to track down front pads from across the country and I have been working with Ford for getting me the backs but they just don't make them yet.
The situation at Road Atlanta was cold and rainy which with the pirelli tires is no good, but I took my time, looked for some dry spots and heated the tires up.
One thing I did was keep the tire pressure gauge on to monitor the heat which is way cool. I used to have to pull into the pits and get a guy to check them, so bonus number 1.
Once I was able to heat them up to around 38-39, they stuck. I would go into turn 5 and 7 which are slow corning and floor it and I wouldn't even be able to brake the tires loose. (Yes, it was in track mode!)
Turn 12, which is a down hill, high speed right really made my nervous since there is always a nice wall to say hello. I will tell you that I never really tested that corner out.
The acceleration in the car was unbelievable. In my old car that was close to the same HP and weighed a lot less, the C6 vettes would pull away from me on the straights. Not this time. I was able to match their speed and hit 130s down the long back stretch of Road Atlanta.
So let me get back to the brake pads that I worried about. I was worried I would burn them up or get a soft brake pedal. NOPE! I just checked this this morning and both look great. The tire wear was great and I did over 100 miles on the track. If you are looking for a car that you can drive on the street and take it to the track to have some fun. You picked the right car.
Here is a small video. Enjoy.
