Hello guys, im having difficulty washing my car, its a mustang 2015 v6 black... im using meguiars shampoo and wax, their wash mitt, MF and MF dryer... i am watching a few scratches, they are really small but i really hate it because i can make more of those each time and it will look enterily scratched... i am washing the mitt in a clean bucket and using another one for the shampoo... first time i washed my car, i saw in the mitt dirt, grass, that could scratch the paint, but what do i do? i tried to remove those impurities from the mitt but they are too many... also, i see water spots already, how do i remove them when washing? should i apply force to the mitt to remove it?, becuase if i have a little grass or something in the mitt, it will scratch all the paint like it already happened. also what do i have to do to wax or polish my car? what are the steps to do it? the shampoo already have wax, but is it the same wax as everyone use? its a new paint and i dont want to mess up so is it good to polish and using compound on new paint? i really dont know how to care a black car... i really would like some help and sorry for the english :(... thanks a lot!

you are washing in direct sunlight, which is the first problem, you will get water spots faster then you can blink. You really do need to take it easy with a black car. don't panic. its black, black is hotter then other colors as it retains heat better then other colors.

Never set your mitt on the ground. I don't even use the big fluffy mitt anymore. I do my washing with micro fiber. no scratch, no swirl. just don't set anything that you are going to apply to your car on the ground, dust, grass, rocks... not good for the car...

wash the car, from the top down. Rinse each section after you wash it. each section should also be resoaked when you are rinsing the next section to keep the water from evaporating, which will leave the sediments of the water behind, which you will see as water spots.

There is a lot of discussion about drying your car. people love their chamois, i hate them. i think they are ineffective and a little harsh on the paint. again, i go back to microfiber, dry, wring out, resume drying.

the shampoo does not already have wax, and as new as your car is, it should not need a coat of wax yet.

if you have micro scratches, you can get a scratch compound - mcguires has a great one, and rub it in over the scratched area, allow the compound to dry for about a minute, and then wipe the compound off.

everything should be all nice and show room shinny once again. open a beer and resume just looking at her. :)

most important - don't panic and run to a car wash. worst idea ever.

Everything Patrick said is on point, and I can't stress enough, if your mitt/towel/sponge hits the ground, it's done for the day and needs to go in the washing machine before it touches the car again. It's just not worth the risk for that one grain of sand to royally screw up your paint - and it can be that simple.

True story! Taking care of a black car is a full time job, but man does it look nice all shined up.

Thanks a lot patrick i tried to do all those steps before but i panic when i saw the scratches.

how do i use that scratch remover? it will remove it or hide it?

Also, when u use your microfiber towl while washing, how much force do u apply?, 25%, 50%, 75%? And if your MF drop in the ground, its easier to clean at the moment right?

I really appreciate your help and support.

Just don't drop the micro fiber. Always have a bunch of them on hand in the event that you have a total butter fingers day, you don't have to leave your car half washed. I have 20 of them at the ready for any washing that is about to take place. Once the MF hits the ground, its done for the day. it goes to the laundry.

The scratch remover is a protectant type compound. The micro scratches you see are not paint deep. they are in the paint protection they are easy to spot because they are reflecting light at a different angle. The scratch remover fills in the scratches. Apply the scratch remover and let it dry, you will see it turn a white color, then you wipe it off in the same way you would wax.

pressure? hmm.. i never thought about it like that. you want to not put so much pressure that you bend the body panels. the hood has a lot of flex to it, so, you will feel the flex before you are endangering the paint. the MF will be soft enough that you won't create the scratches with it.

things like Bird poop will not come off by lightly waving the towel over the body of the car - you gotta work those out a bit.

always take the tags off of your towels!!! LOL!

speaking of bird poop... remember that your car is going to get hotter on sunny days than most cars - if you get a bird poop on the black paint, don't wait too long to clean it off. it will bake. Same with berries that fall out of trees, the mess they leave behind will bake onto the car, and quickly.

Feel free to hit me up with any more questions, I have been cleaning black cars for about 15 years, 10 of those were with my '05 mustang - you have an absolutely gorgeous color on your car, taking care of it is a full time job, but the pay off is SO worth it. Looking at it freshly cleaned will give you a sense of taking ultimate pride in your investment.

put up some photos!!!! :headbang:

I will wash my car tomorrow and ill be very careful in each aspect, 2 buckets, water and shampoo, clean mitt or MF, rinse all the dirt, start washing from top, rinse, then hood, rinse, tail rinse, bumber rinse and sides rinse, dont let evaporize the water, so i have to spray water all the time, then dry with MF dryer, really gentle... and see the imperfections... the small scratches that appears when i turn the flashlight on, or when i really detail it... i will try to buy the meguiars scratch remover, if i cant, ill take pictures from the scratches to see if you can help me a bit.

Also, i would like to know what are the steps to detail a car?. New paint requires, polish, compound, clay? or only wax? i am bit confuse about it, i dont want to mess up the new paint...

Thanks a lot my friend! I really appreciate your knowledge!:thumbsup:

You've already been given great info. Take a look at http://www.detailedimage.com You will find all the help/products the pros use. My last three cars have been black, including my daily driver…you'll get the hang of it. Once you have the paint where you want it, it's not that hard. Good luck and enjoy:thumbsup:

Too add a little to this,a lot of people like to park under trees to keep the car in the shade. DON'T DO IT! Tree sap, acorns, berries, bird poop, squirrel...crap; you name it will do far more damage than some sun on the car.

a car this new should not need a coat of wax or polish. the water still beads on the car, it is still good to go. you will not need to wax the car every time you wash her. some people do, but, it is kind of a waste of time. wax and polishes should last for a while. you can tell when it is time to wax when you are washing it and the water is not beading up and rolling off the car.

I figured it out that those scratches are really really minor like swirls, it doesnt pop when u watch the car, you have to use a led flashlight to watch it or sunlight and get really close to it... if its so minor... how do i remove it? there should exist something that doesnt harm the clear coat at all... i dont want to polish the car because its new paint.

Thanks!
