Basically, what am I missing out on the 18GT that I don't know of?

This would be a 17 GT base w/ A/T compared to the same on the 18.

  • 10 speed A/T
  • engine revisions, port/direct fuel injection (ie. HP)
  • some styling characteristics
  • also the 17 available isn't my favorite color
  • seems like the stock exhaust on the 18 is better

What else am I missing, and should I worry about the above things if I am getting a substantial discount?

thanks

Thanks. I'll probably be base base, as in tiny screen.

I'm also looking at Koons Baltimore due to their discounts, that would be an interesting option.

If you're getting auto, I wouldn't get a 17 personally. If you were getting a MT and didn't care about the upgraded transmission in the 18 then it wouldn't matter.
Otherwise if you're getting a base car you wouldn't be missing too much but better exhaust and engine upgrades. The real bigger changes are the MR, digital dash, and things like that which a base car wouldn't have anyway.

If you can afford the '18, and don't mind the looks compared with the 15-17, get the '18 auto. Better car overall, for certain.

Spend a little more money and get the latest & greatest tech. The 18 is the way to go.

Depends on the deal.
I've been offered a '18 PP 6 Speed (base) for $35k OTD
I've also got a buddy negotiating on a new '17 GT 6 speed PP (Base). He told me today their latest offer was $32K OTD with TTL

If you like it and the deal, go for it. There are (now) and going to be plenty of nice, low mile '15-17 GT cars on lots (and private sales) for cheap with so many people trading in on '18 models.

I'm trying to talk my neighbor into pulling the trigger on a used '17 PP GT (Base ) 6 speed car with under 6K miles. Their asking price is $27K.

If the price is right, I don't see why not. I don't get the hype on the A10. When new things come out the 1st year is usually the worst and given the A10 is part GM I don't have a lot of confidence in it. Time will tell.

It's not the first year for the trans though. Only the first year in the Mustang. It was in the 2017 F150 and 2017 Camaro ZL1.

Are you kidding. The 18s with the A10s are killing it. 11s out of the box. Theres no 15-17 sniffing anywhere near those times stock.

I agree with the you about the A10 and sure looks like a winner if it holds up.A lot of moving parts, just saying.

I've been looking around at left over 2017 stock, and I don't understand the dealer pricing strategy. Currently, the best 17 prices are only a couple thousand under 18s, and the technology difference between the two models is rather substantial.

This of course is advertised price. If you call a dealer about a 17 when they have 18s on the lot, you should be able to quickly talk them down to a price equal to a net loss on their end.
