Hey guys,

I did a few searches on the forum and read a few threads... however, I'm still looking for an opinion from fellow R owners.

How many of you guys actually daily or semi-daily the R with the Stock wheels? I'm just curious if anyone else was worried about dinging them or chipping the paint and ended up swapping them with another set? I would like to keep them on, but am a little worried about the durability of the set.

If you kept the stock wheels on, did you keep the tires as well, or went with something more streetable? I saw different options, but it seems that most people went with 325 rears.

Lastly, How many of you had the front xpel wrapped or did some other protection from the rock chips?

Thank you so much.

Just purchased a 18 R I am keeping the stock wheels on it that's why I have insurance and yes I know they will only cover replacement if they don't hold air but I am good with that. I bought the car to use and one of the best features of this car is the light weight wheels it comes with it so why take them off and not take advantage of the lightness and great vehicle dynamics.

And yes get the car clear bra done I am going to take mine in next week as since the tires really throw small stones etc onto the fenders etc.

I think these cars can be enjoyed they way they come with a little protection added and obviously being careful were you drive but carbon fiber wheels are really strong but obviously can chip etc if you curb them but they will take a pretty hard hit before they fail. If they were not durable Ford would have never put them on the vehicle for fear of being sued.

Thanks for the reply.
I assume, you'll keep the stock tires on it as well until they wear out? They aren't that user friendly for street use, I noticed. I was thinking of going with Hankooks or maybe the other Michelin ones... forgot the brand.

The SC2 tires will die within 5000 miles, probably less. A lot of R guys went with different wheels and tires simply because of that reason and saved the stockers and SC2's for track use.

Correct if I was to change tires I would try the new PS4s but I will just replace the SC2 with the same tires. I had a non R before but like the dynamics of this vehicle much more and will not do anything that changes it.

I had planned on swapping out the wheels and tires, but much of what gives the R its feel is the wheel and tire combo, so I've come to like it on the street. Grant it I would like to be able to drive it in the rain but everything's a compromise.

I'd look into aftermarket wheels and comparible r compound tires for street use. That's what I do.

Ive gone to aftermarket wheels and will be getting either PSS or PS4 tires. The PSC2 are just not particularly street friendly outside of summer. Even then rain is an issue and if its cold forget about any traction.

Plus once the PSC2s heat up they blast the rockers and QPs with rocks pretty well so consider PPF or stone guards for the front wheels as well. Street tires will still do this but to a lesser extent. I will use my CF wheels for track days and a occasional show to maximize the left of the cup tires. No one in my area wants to change a tire on a carbon fiber wheel

Congrats on your R...they are amazing vehicles! I feel very fortunate to have somewhat blindly chosen the GT350R coming from a 2013 Maxima.

I have around 5600mi on OEM CF wheels and PSC2 tires. I have the TireCare Warranty and had to have 1 CF wheel replaced under warranty due to a rock getting lodged between the front caliper and inner barrel of the thermobaric coating. Was really glad I have that dang warranty...$3600 value all told within first few months of ownership! If you do not have a warranty then would recommend aftermarket wheels and tires.

There is a very fresh thread about Xpel/Clearbra regrets where I detailed my decision to full wrap...best money spent after the warranty above. Find a good installer you trust and go for it. In the R with PSC2s you absolutely will get rock chips on front bumper and in front of rear tires even from light driving...they throw up every grain of sand, pebbles, debris they touch and NO ‘rock blocker’ product is going to stop that. My 2c.

What is the plan for your R model with respect to the amount of driving you plan to do along with the amount of miles you plan to drive each year after which time much easier to answer any of your questions?

Congrats's on the R!!! I took the stockers off for now. Will run them for shows and occasional track days, currently run the replica's with Conti tires. You will need to run either a 305 or 325 rear in anything other than the cup 2's.

I will be getting a set of Signature SV502in a 19x11 square setup with 25mm front spacers for street and track (ability to rotate all 4 corners). These wheels weigh on at 20.4 lbs which get you pretty close to the OEM carbon's. If choosing tires other than cup 2's research there weights.

Wheel weight, top of the caliper to barrel clearance and correct offset are the main concerns.

Research the shops that have the correct no touch wheel machines for the carbon wheels. Typically there is only a few Ford dealers in any given state that has one and only a handful of tire shops. Research and find one that deals with high end vehicles as having the machine and knowing how to use it properly can be challenging.

I would recommend finding a very reputable shop then have a full paint correction done then clear bra the entire front to the windshield, door pillars, roof, rear wing, door sills, door bottom half, area in front and behind rear wheels. I also had the rear panel done between the tail lights along with the calipers and carbon wheels ceramic pro coated which makes clean up much easier.

Enjoy!!

I plan to use these in the Winter/Spring Months + Winter/Spring Month track days. Vibe is installing 305/30/19 F, 325/30/19 R MSSP's on mine & I should have them any day now.

I'll use the stock setup for Summer/Fall months. + Summer/Fall month track days. i.e. it doesn't really rain here in Summer/Fall.

I had PPF on the entire front end up to the front window. Also included the lower panels aft of the doors just before the rear wheels. Then, Ceramic coating over the entire car.

Congrats on the R, but these are some pricey wheels! I would most certainly look into some street tires and wheels! Check out the project 6gr line up! 7 or 5 spoke design!

6gr wheels leave a very small caliper to wheel clearance. I have them and wouldn't recommend
