There are already so many options for catch cans currently on the market. One of the most difficult aspects of competing with so many options is the price. So, we decided that the best way forward was to eliminate the longest process of the machining. We moved the main portion of the catch can body to a custom extrusion which allowed us to reduce cost.
Our design is simple and straight forward, it contains an internal baffle to divert airflow down and start separating air from oil mist. It then routes around the baffle and toward the exit, which contains a stainless steel sintered filter that is specifically designed to filter oil from air. The sight glass allows for a quick level check and oil can be conveniently drained using the stainless steel ball valve below the catch can.
Here are a few pictures of our progress along the way.
Here is the internal baffle we use, does its job quite well. We have tested the full range of stainless steel sintered filters. The trapped oil at the bottom of the canister is after 200 miles of driving.
Looking forward to any questions or comments.
