I thought there was a setting for this in the digital dash itself. I forget which menu, but I feel like I turned this on when I retrofitted my cluster .
I don't believe that the ford/spotify app setup works anymore unfortunately, I believe it's just track info but no album art.
Carplay and Android Auto both work with spotify and show cover art and all song info though.
I ran in to the same issue, however, I just left the boot off all together because I didn't want to cut it up. There is a little more NVH, but the trade off for the feeling of the shifter was totally worth it.
This was my favorite mod so far, really changed the feel of the car for me.
I was the same way, I "settled" for a 400a with PP1, then purchased all of the parts and did it myself. It was around $1K and took a little bit of searching, but it was totally worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
It looks great, and I find myself changing the stlye on it all the time.
