you dont have to use the R tune, the DSC will let you calibrate the dampers. The only question is if there is enough adjustability to get the result youre looking for.

the actual dampers are different, the valving is different between the R and non R models. DSC does not recommend loading the R calibration into a non R setup for this reason.
