Thinking about the geometry of this, it actually makes sense that the passenger side mirror is further back and angled more, suggesting that they did swap things for RHD. From the driver's seat the sight line to the driver side mirror is probably about 45 degrees, and to the passenger side...

Vessels often slow or stop enroute to do engine maintenance if their schedule and the sea conditions are conducive. It's cheaper than doing it at the wharf if there is not time to complete it during unloading/loading.

I think I was reading in the manual that if you are on level ground (or downslope presumably) it's recommended to take off in second gear. I've never driven a six speed car before, but I do drive a six speed fire truck and we do take off in second in that, unless on an upslope, in rough terrain...
