It's an easy job. I've done several sets. A second pair of hands makes it much easier to handle (at least getting the stock set off anyway). Since the aftermarket kits come in pieces they are no sweat.
If you are unsure, just take your time. You'll be fine.
I will say though, it looked like the older plastic pans were sealed entirely with some kind of curing sealant. The gasket arrangement appears to be new, so maybe I just got unlucky. We'll see.
I blame my friend for this. Mine was fine until he warned me the plastic pans like to leak...
They didn't say. I know it was leaking from two of the bolts, but I don't know what the leak path was.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Ford had issues with plastic pans before on some trucks, went back to a metal pan, then plastic again with the ecoboost F150's (of which there are many, many...
LOL, yeah I'm right there with you. I'm not a particularly patient person either. Other than this oil leak mess, I really like my 18 so far. I'm sure you will too.
Mine didn't leave much on the ground either, just small circles about 2" in diameter. I wouldn't have brought it in and let them open it up had I known I'd get stuck in this backorder mess. Of course, the dealer didn't either, they thought they had the part...just happened to be the wrong one...
Geez man that sucks. I sure hope they get it sorted for you this week. Reading this mess just has me convinced I'll buy a damn MMR or FRPP pan before I let mine sit at the dealership that long. The buyback doesn't sound like it's worth the hassle at all.
I can only imagine. Mine has only been out of my hands about a week now and I'm already impatient about it. Mostly because the return date is open ended. My dealership has moved my completion date a few times already, and now apparently the part is back ordered. Not sure what that's going to...
I will say I'm not thrilled at the idea that the car is sitting in the shop with the pan off though. Aside from dust, I'm in a humid climate too, though it's been fine (and cold) recently. Kind of ticks me off, but there isn't much to be done about it at this point.
LOL, that's not too far off from me. I've had mine about 3 weeks, and the last week has been in the shop, and it'll be there through next week too. Not sure if it'll get stuck in there for longer than that though, I hope not.
It's chilling in the shop with the pan off collecting horsepower...
So apparently the gasket is back ordered. They found this out AFTER they took the car apart, so she's up on a lift now with no pan, return date TBD. *sigh*.
Apparently the 18 pans use a gasket, and in the few spots sealant is required, ford has some something special they spec, so I'll let them do their thing and see how it works out.
Maybe I'll drive down there. I'm in Laplata, but that dealership is probably only 45 minutes south. I'm also a creature comfort type...I'm getting old. lol. When I want raw fun, I drive my fox. When it's not broken.
But yeah I ended up getting an 18GT with the 401a package a few weeks...
Ford Verified no new pan is needed. They are just going to replace the gasket, reseal it, let it sit overnight so the oil pan ferries can do their thing, then give it back. We'll see if this holds...the guys over on the F150 forums have often had to go through this multiple times to get this...
That wouldn't surprise me, as my car sounds EXACTLY like your video. And yours was a manual too yes? It's different than the auto video posted where the rattle is very brief during shifts, where as mine will persist for as long as I want it too.
