That Hamilton place is a rip-off. Autoworld makes the Guard GT # AW225 and you can get them for about $70 on flea-bay. Not that $70 is much better for a typical die-cast car that would have been $25 just a few years back.

Check out Swaintech; they do intercooler painting with a special "heat emiiter" coating. A lot of road racers use it. They did a ceramic type coating on my upper and down-pipe on my WRX and it's been great through three winters already. If not maybe a thin layer of spray paint might be OK?

With a M6 car I agree the halfshafts should be replaced right off the bat. With an A6 car the halfshafts shouldn't need replacing unless it's a dedicated drag car with 800+ RWHP and you are trying to pedal it on drag radials and getting wheel hop.

I'd say 3.15's (or 3.11's as a few people say they have :D) for any FI and mostly street use or if you plan on putting a converter in. 3.55's for the NA or strip/sticky tire crowds.

I see vids of them all the time and that looks like something cool to do. However; I have 3 dragstrips within an hour or less of me. I doubt there are any 1/2 mile run setups within 3-4 hours of me. :(

Look at it this way... If you are going to modify it then those missing "horses" you mention won't matter. If you are going to leave it stock you won't have to worry about running into any U.S. GT's that might bully you around. :D

If you can get the car to use the full 580/473 without whatever else is happening you should be running low 11's/mid 120's MPH on a bias ply slick. With a convertor you should have a mid-high 10 second car. Hope you get it sorted out; either the tune is off or maybe the dyno is not calibrated...

That's a good way to get there but the halfshafts are a needless expense with an automatic. I haven't heard of anyone breaking one in an auto.

To be fair the 10.10 car was an Automatic which doesn't shock the drivetrain anywhere near as hard as a manual. A friend of mine snapped a halfshaft on his manual 15 at Norwalk this summer; stock with drag radials. It did wheel hop for a sec and that was it. I don't think you can always get...
