Yup, I agree. For integrity of the update, the engineers certainly decided it is more reliable to actually apply the update from local storage rather than to rely on a USB medium and possible user removing it or something else

This. The update continues even after the USB activity light ceases to flash. Mine continued for a number of minutes. I also did the update twice as it didn't seem to actually complete it the first time around. Total was about 15-20 min.

Or better yet, a removable targa panel! Or just do like me, buy 2 cars, 1 convertible cruiser and 1 hard top performer ;)
