Long overdue update:
Went to Thunderhill in Willows CA (about an hour from my house) on the 3rd. Had a great time, car performed excellent but created some wants...of course! Being in Group A Novice I was one of the faster cars, including quicker around the track than my father-in-law's...
Shaft sent in...now its a waiting game.
Side Note: seems to me there is a market for a stock style (2 piece) shaft which is "forgiving" like the stock unit in terms of vibration/angles/NVH, but made of tougher materials, stronger U/CV joints and a beefier carrier bearing.
I just got my RMA from DSS, will send the shaft out within the next few days. As to what I do once I get it back or a replacement back, IDK. I plan on staying N/A for a while if not forever and am not a drag racer so don't need the strength. I may just post it for sale once its back and "good".
Vendor did call me back today and said they had been in contact with DSS, so they are working on making this right too; but within their return policy. At least I am not left completely hanging, however still faced with possibly having to deal with a shaft that doesn't work well with my car if...
Some good news, looks like DSS is going to let me send it in to have it checked out, all good with me, if they tell me its good or send another ill give it another shot. They have been a lot more willing to work with me than the vendor I purchased it from.
Packaging was all good, visual inspection prior to install, everything checked out, U-Joint was free/smooth, CV was free/smooth and CV tolerance was just a hair over 3.25 inches (all good according to DSS). I proceeded with install since all was good and now stuck with it because of it. I got cut...
I too ordered from a "very reputable sponsor" here, but they are holding firm that they need a professional shop to determine that its the shaft that is faulty. Until then they are holding firm on this portion of their return policy:
"We will not accept a return of an item that is damaged or...
So what's the answer if I get it checked for balance and its good, but still cant get it to run right on the car? This is a hypothetical but probably reality.
Well, looking like I may be out 760 bucks. I wont name the company (yet). Anyhow, they want "professional proof" that the shaft is bad. In other words, shaft needs to be put back on and taken somewhere, and I am supposed to pay that shop to determine what I already know...the shaft is out of...
I said the hell with it and threw the stock shaft back on. Will return this turd next week, too scared it’s going to bust something to mess with it. Maybe I’ll try a different shaft in the future.
Finally drove my car after installing a DSS 4' Aluminum DS last week, it vibes and makes a terrible noise, basically undrivable.
Will have to go back to the stock shaft unless there is a fix or something different to try.
Exactly - line my 16 up with an 18 on a straight road = lose (but only by a little), run with an 18 in the hills...no difference or I am quicker due to heavily mod'd suspension
Off topic again - bottom line, rear brake hardware is shot...overheated too many times, need new stuff, looking for an upgrade. So far the best option appears to be going to 350 brakes all around. Anyone know the answers to my backspacing questions?
This got off subject! When I said match I meant performance. Anyway GT350 Brakes may be the way to go, but require a wheel/tire swap as well, taking the 4kish initial cost up to 7K+. Also the way I understand it, a wheel set for a GT is not going to work after the 350 brake install because the...
