Tires always come up when people want an excuse.

Like the SS 1LE was faster than the GT350 non R until Ford put comparable tires on the GT350.

look at the discussions from the GTD competition and all the whining regarding tires. Tires & conditions all are factors and can have big effects regarding performance.

Yup. Probably the biggest difference you can make for one part on a car. Lightning lap showed 11 second difference between the EcoBoost Mustang and the EcoBoost HiPo that has good tires + better suspension. Even between the 'better tire' and 'best tire' you can see a couple seconds.

‘it is. But for getting out hustled and outhandled so badly, it should be priced more realistically. Most of the car is off the shelf. Suspension and body kit aren’t that expensive.

hopefully, when the competition version is out, it outhustles and out handles the zr1 on American tracks and drag strips.

My guy, not sure how old you think I am but I guarantee I’m older than you think. I remember watching that commercial live and saw the GOAT play live several times at both the old Chicago Stadium and United Center.

You probably haven’t seen the car in person, I’ve seen a few and actually got to sit in one for a few minutes. The amount of carbon fiber on the car and actually seeing the suspension, the active wing, etc. is impressive. Way more than some car pieced together from spare parts off the shelf. You can tell everything was designed with the total car in mind. Your continued underselling of the car is hilarious.

And yeah, we know it starts life as a Dark Horse body in white. Multimatic cuts half the body up when they get it. The only “regular” Mustang left is the screens and some of the interior.

I posted pictures of seeing the car in person from every angle on this forum. Was probably its biggest fan prior to the ‘Ring runs. But anyway, carry on with…whatever this is. I meant no disrespect to your age or whatever. Just that the memes you chose are a bit outdated. Get some better ones. We all like to laugh, even at ourselves. A current meme would work wonders. And you don’t have to be young for your parents to text you stuff they think is cool or funny.

the Mustang GTD is what it is: an extremely overpriced factory mustang thot got shipped off to multimatic for some mods and a body kit. It really should have been the GT500 and priced accordingly. Instead, it was priced into absurdity and soundly whooped by factory corvettes that cost half as much, making the price even more absurd.

thankfully, we have the competition version coming out at some point, which can be compared with the Vette’s by the usual suspects in the real world to see how she does. Looking forward to that.

As a longtime Mustang guy, one has to wonder why Ford is getting its behind whooped on the mainstream cars, but it takes special order $400+k “competition” versions or 2 million dollar Mark 4 race cars to compete with the street legal stuff anyone can buy at a GM dealership?

All the other LMDH cars look the same or similar, not sure what you expected there. I’m sure there’s some regulations around the car’s design for racing but I don’t know that for sure.

As for the GTD, I still think it’s a great car. I could care less about what it costs. The car is a fat pig and yet it’s just as fast (at the Ring at least) as a car that weighs 500lbs less and has 200 more HP (ZR1). That makes the car all that more impressive to me. I’ll also say, having Multimatic do the work by hand adds to the cost, every ZR1 is an assembly line car all the way through. GTD is not. Could it have been? Maybe. That’s not Ford’s MO with GTD or with the GT. Having them do the car suits it, some agree some don’t. The weight is my biggest gripe about the car, even then it wouldn’t be a deal killer for me if I had the coin for one.

Ford is making a GT500, it just doesn’t have the Shelby name. Dark Horse SC should be a great car. They’re even making a convertible, something they didn’t do with the S550 GT500.

It’s tough to be a car person in general. Camaro is gone, Challenger and Charger are gone (at least as we knew them). Lack of competition isn’t good for anyone. Ford is still putting out some good products. Bronco isn’t my style but it’s cool, we love our Explorer ST and I love my Mustang. I test drove a Maverick when we were buying the Explorer, it’s a nice little truck. I could see myself daily one. I actually applaud Ford with coming out with a performance sedan, if they need the Mustang attached to it, so be it. Not saying they’re perfect because they have a lot of work to do on the quality front (they are the kings of recalls), but I still think Ford is putting out good stuff. V8 coupes are becoming exceedingly rare, Ford is sticking with it while others have left.

As for the memes, I don’t keep up on them. The oldies still make me laugh so I use them. I’m stubborn that way

ford isn’t making a new gt500. They are reanimating the old one from the grave, massaging it a tiny bit, and calling it “SC” something or other.

I certainly care what the Gtd costs. The thing should be crazy fast for that money. Instead you can see numerous YouTube videos watching it get left in the dust on the track, strip, and everyday roads. And then they merged the SC thing too so as not to step on its underpowered toes.

it’s not something to crow about when the v8 is stagnant. The Bullitt 5.0 powering today’s GT and the dark horse version certainly does not compare to the development effort given to the gt350. Camaro will have a whole new generation of v8s to propel it. Dodge is getting back into the game, too. Ford has better step it up.

you can skew it however you need to sleep better at night. At the end of the day, defending the status quo when it’s demonstrably inferior to the competition just isn’t a good look. But you can keep on doing whatever suits you. It’s a free country. In the meantime, I’ll continue to csll it as it is and push for better Mustangs.
