Alec, you know my thoughts already so I won’t rehash them all here. I do think the HEP cars (R or non-R) are really cool (even though I don’t care for white cars generally) and the HEP non-R would be higher on my list than an R in a color I wasn’t thrilled about. Car color is big for me, these are fun cars so the color has to be fun too. White and grayscale colors just don’t do it for me. Grabber Blue, Grabber Lime, Lightning Blue, FP Blue, Triple Yellow, Race Red. Those are my jam. But what’s important to me may not be important to you.

If the HEP is what really speaks to you, it’s worth waiting to see if that will materialize. Especially since it has the owner’s kit, car cover, etc. Not every Shelby will come with that stuff, a lot of the original owners held on to them. I would suggest driving that 19 R that’s near us if you can, you’ll know right away if an R is something you have to have or not.

Agreed, as there has so much commentary during this thread it is almost getting comical.

Alec, aside from you reaching out to me some months ago, I suggest that you have received more than enough feedback from some very knowledgeable and experienced GT350/GT350R owners in order to make a decision and proceed from there.

Personally, with you having a $70,000 budget I don't see a 2019/2020 GT350R being realistic.

Good luck going forward.

I appreciate everything as always guys. After sleeping on it and gathering everybody’s opinion, I think the car for me is still a 2020 HEP, for the appearance, experience, practicality, use case and financial aspects combined.

No wrong answer but that’s obviously the better answer for you! Now, when you procure it, set a weekly calendar entry to check oil level lol. ‘19-‘20s aren’t immune 👀

The 2016-2018 Rs are just as good. The whole "has to be a 2019/2020" car is 🙃

Get an R.

I agree with you. The reason I want a 2019-2020 car is for the HEP package and B&O sound system, BLIS system, Cobra from the mirror. Things of that nature, interior upgrades that I’m used to from my Mach 1.

sooooo, girl stuff?

🙈🙉🙊

HEP is just a paint scheme
B&O is useless on a voodoo
BLIS irrelevant when you go from 6th to 3rd
puddle lights are for imports

…just sayin 😎

Fully understand. FYI, my ‘18 with a good 12” RF Punch sealed sub annihilates the B&O system in all aspects. The B&O in our Mach E is also meh. The 16-18 blind spot mirrors are quaint but better than just indicators, they’re awesome. But, can’t argue with HEP haha! Oh yeah, and that stitched center console on the ‘19-20 is a nice touch. I’ll add that to mine one day.

A different take: I wanted an R, got an R, but should've gotten a GT350. If you plan to frequently include more than 1 person in the car, i.e. spouse and kids, the R is a no. Yea, you could add rear seats, or you can just get a GT350. Delete its resonators and it sounds like the R. Also, the constant fear of damaging the CF wheels, or the car itself, is amplified owning the R due to their value. You could swap wheels, but again just get a GT350. I prefer keeping vehicles OEM.

Consider everything, which you already are. I had the mindset that if I didn't get the R, it would spoil the fun of owning a GT350. A GT350 would've better suited my needs, therefore I would've enjoyed it more.

Still, I cherish my R 🐍

YMMV

Found one that’s about 30 hours away from me. I’d make the drive. Gonna talk some numbers tomorrow and see what happens. Here are some photos of the undercarriage and engine bay. 16,000 mile HEP, $75,961. December built, Indiana delivered, but Cali lived car since April 2021 when it had 11 miles. So I assume likely sat in the showroom between that time. What do you guys think?
