Hello,

I bought a stupid cheap 2016 GT, previously owned by a irresponsible 19 year old. I am currently undoing the endless amount of missed maintenance and stupid modifications that this poor pony was subjected too.

One such modification is the "sick aftermarket stereo" (his words not mine) it a cheap Sony touch screen that he put in with what appears to be a base model bezel plate with the option 7 inch Sync screen. I'm assuming its a base because it has the 3 push buttons next to the start buttons and not the 4 toggle switches of the premium package. Oddly enough it also has the HVAC panel for a premium with heating and cooled seats, but the Mustang has cloth interior, no idea.

The most important thing for me is the 3 buttons next to the Start/Stop button (Traction Control, Hazard Lights, Steering Wheel Feel) are inoperable, they do not light up with the rest of the dash when the headlights are on, or perform their function. Removing the dash shows that all the plugs on the back of the buttons are seated correctly. Is this a result of having a aftermarket stereo? Do they need to "talk" to the Sync unit in order to function. I find it odd that they don't even illuminate, when the rest of the media controls (which don't work and definitely talk to the old sync unit) do.

Whats your guys wisdom on this? Thanks.

Nothing to do with the topic, but I used to have 1984 Indy Fiero.

Hmmm,
I do admit, Id love to see a picture of this Temu monstrosity...

Im no expert, but I did install my Dynavin unit myself.

Was looking at an install video, and the cables plug in right there in the back...

Could be that he did it himself and didnt plug the cable in correctly... or he damaged the cables or pins when removing them from the stock unit... (they are quite tricky to remove) Or it could just be that he ordered the version to replace the premium unit and his car is a base, which is resulting in communication problems...

Probably needs to do a little Forscan programming.

This would be my first guess. (And it IS a guess). But would you need the as-built for this car and one with premium features??

So it uses a stock bezel, its just a regular 8inch double din unit and a adapter harness. The cables and pins arent bent and are clicked in fully. I just dont know why theres no power or lights on the bottom row. Maybe Ill just bite the bullet and go to sync 3

To retain your stock function when replacing the stock system you need to have a I datalink Maestro or equivalent. Do the stereo controls on your steering wheel work?

No, none of them work, neither the dash or the wheel. Do you the TC, Steering Wheel, and Hazard button is tied into the radio comms?

Steering wheel controls absolutely do. not sure about the other ones, but even if they don’t, when they pulled out the infotainment system who knows what they did

Not sure at the moment. Right no, NO audio/media buttons are functional, wheel or dash. I have a full Sync 3 system coming in from FourSyncTech. Ill update the post here if that brings my buttons back!

Okay, I now have a explanation for what was wrong with my buttons in case this happens to anyone else. The issues with the media buttons was cause by a lack of DataLink adapter, installing a proper Sync 3 system restored their operation. The bigger issue was the buttons next to the start/stop button

The bezel the previous owner purchased to complete the swap was the FR3V-18E245-AE. Which is a Shelby GT350 Specific Bezel with a 8 Inch Screen and Dual Zone Climate Control. This bezel is equipped with 4 switches next to the start button, not 3. It also has different buttons. (Regular GT -> Hazards - Traction Control - Steering Feel - Track Modes) (GT350 -> Hazards - Traction Control - Launch Control - Active Exhaust)

The previous owner, who must have realized his mistake, swapped the plastic button overlay panel from his 4.1" bezel over to the new GT350 Bezel. This is why none of the buttons were lighting up or functioning and why the buttons were missing the surrounds. (The surrounds are part of the bezel on base models) The 3 buttons were not sitting on top of the contact pads or LEDs. This allowed to start/stop button to work, but left the rest of the buttons inoperable.

The solution was to purchase the correct bezel for a GT.

For anyone in the future. If you have a 8 inch Radio Bezel with Dual Zone Climate Control you must have 4 Switches/Buttons next to your engine start button! A 8 inch Radio Bezel equipped with Dual Zone Climate Control with 3 buttons next to the start/stop button is not a valid configuration and may have been messed with.

I have seen the existence of 8 Inch Screen Bezel with Single Zone Climate Control and 3 Buttons. I do not know where these originate from, but have seen pictures of them. If you have a 8 inch bezel with Single zone climate control, you will have 3 push buttons instead of toggles.
