2019 Mustang Bullitt.

Tried an h pipe / resonator delete using stock mufflers to see if I like the tone better.

It was pretty good at low RPM (except for some drone) and a touch loud in Normal mode for me in the city.

Higher RPM sounded too loud (again, for me in the city - I don’t want THAT much attention) and it sounded way too raspy in that higher RPM range.

I just had my original resonator put back in and now it sounds much more muffled than when it was previously at stock. I have to put the exhaust in Track mode for it to get even close to Sport +. Sport + is what I liked in the city with the original resonator and muffler.

I’m guessing that using the clamps to put the resonator back in, or if any metal cement was used is somehow making this happen?

The installer did say that he welded something with the exhaust to keep it from moving - don’t know what it was so, I’ll have to ask him.

I don’t mind it being a bit louder than original stock (with active exhaust I have the options to make it louder with the different settings). However, I don’t want it as loud as the “h pipe with stock muffler” option - Normal mode was getting close to my original Track mode.

Should I do an axle back Borla S-Type with the stock resonator and see if that does it for me?
Or, do the cat back Borla Touring?
Or, do the Borla S-Type axle back with the h pipe (which MAY be too loud, I don’t know).

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks.
I too tried the H pipe on my 2020 Bullitt and didn’t like the sound that much either it was way less refined….

later I put on a borla SwitchFire and it sounded much better….

after I went back to stock and yes it seemed more muffled than normal but a bit of driving and it cleared up….

however
I started to get bored with the stock sound again and went for a full borla stype 3 inch cat back.

man you have to try that exhaust it sounds absolutely amazing and it won’t rasp like a resonator delete.

yes it’s loud but quiet when cruising no drone at all.
Seriously the only way to get these engines sounding good is a cat back.

take my advice get one… it’s amazing

I had wondered if I was just used to the louder sound after 5 days of the install. However, I instantly noticed that it did not sound the same as previous stock. I had a tune on it and thought that maybe that was it. I put the original tune back on the Bullitt and it was definitely not the same as before. So much more quiet and a bit of a different tone. It is really *that* different. I'm thinking it has to be something with the clamps or perhaps some metal cement. Something is muffling the sound more than normal. I do appreciate your reply, though. 👍
Honestly you are just used to the sound with the H pipe.
I thought the same thing when going back to stock. Thought it was muffled but it is the same I promise.

but don’t waste your money on resonator deletes. Get a full catback the s type is amazing on these cars. And you have the active exhaust as well for quiet starts.

These threads always crack me up. Spend money on an exhaust - spend more money putting back to stock - spend even more money for a Borla to replace the reinstalled stock setup.

I am extremely happy with the setup that I went with: kooks longtubes, magnaflow tru x resonator and stock catback.

I ended up getting a Borla resonated h-pipe with the stock mufflers. A week later I added the Borla S-type mufflers to it. I'm good now.

I keep thinking that it has to be in my head because the same exact part was put back on it. But I swear it still sounds not as loud as previously stock. It has to be the same, though.
Ok this is weird….
I too have a 2020 Bullitt and notice the exactly same thing.
Reinstalled the stock muffler and it sounds really muffled and quiet.

it must be in our heads surely ??
