Hello; Had a thought today and had to take a nap. but it did not go away. Try to keep the political stuff out of it if you will. The traffic at the Panama Canal is high due to the closed strait of Hormuz.

Iran is supposed to be running out of places to store oil. The story is if they shut down production the wells will be somehow messed up and maybe ruined???
My thought is what if they do not shut in the wells but keep on pumping. Maybe allowing the oil to spill on the ground or into the sea. The logic is they will have to shut down the wells, but I wonder if logic applies anymore. Is this idea as crazy as it seems to me??????
Well, I guess this is one less thing we have to wonder about now.

Hello; mere words cannot express my true feelings. Guess it fits. Back in the 1990's Sadam set oil wells on fire.
Note; i now realize my thought was triggered by reports of an oil slick. I often have a news station on in the background and must have heard the report without paying immediate attention. Diabolical.
Yes. No politics, all of this is just sad to see happening.

This WWII plane is flying again after being found under 268 feet of Greenland ice
Hello; The WWII fighter was restored at the airport in Middlesboro KY, my birthplace. Not mentioned in the link is that a banker in Middlesboro was involved in the adventure to recover her from the ice. He also apparently had a controlling financial interest in the plane since it stayed in Middlesboro for a few years after the restoration. After the man's death his widow sold the plane is the story I heard. I do not recall the man's name. Slusher maybe but I am not sure.

I went to the hanger a couple of times during the restoration. Forget the name of the man doing the work but he had a big job and did it well. Before it was sold i saw it fly several times. An air show was held each fall. A number of vintage warbirds would show up for the shows. One year a second P-38 was present.

Glad to know the plane is still around.

Hello; Just read that a nuclear power plant was attacked by a drone in the UAE. A four-reactor power plant. Stated that the backup generators kicked in and no radiation has escaped. Unlike the reactors in Japan when the backup generators were flooded by the tsunami and the reactors were damaged.
Guess when we have another debate about future energy production those against nuclear energy have a new arrow in their quiver. That being someone will deliberately try to blow up a reactor.
Guess a side discussion could be the question of how crazy someone has to be to target a reactor. A modern day pandoras box I reckon.

I do not understand the thinking/calculations of doing this exactly.

Hello; Just got my first AI phone call from a car dealership. a Ford dealer in Lexington KY. Took only seconds to realize I was talking to an AI. It was somewhat better than when I call Direct TV or the local power company with their scripted list of choices. Still unsettling.
I got a message from the shop last week about a good deal on a Mustang. Only automatics in inventory when i checked the website. The call today wanted to know if I was still shopping. I said yes but you do not have a manual.
The AI asked what it would take to get my business. I said I already told you.
AI did not follow. So, I told it to call when they had a manual.

This is almost ab bad as the touch screens and other awkward tech in the new Mustangs. I can still hang up on the AI.

China is stamping brand-new bodies for classics like the Mustang, Land Cruiser, and 911

Hello; Here is the question. Rather one of the questions. say you want to build up a 1967 mustang and need major body panels. Does it matter the panel is made in China?

I tried to buy American made some years ago with limited results. My first Nissan Sentra, a 1991 SE-R was made in TN. I read back then it had more American made parts than a Ford Crown Vic of that time. My second & current 2001 Sentra was not. After the purchase I discovered the factory was moved to Mexico.
My current 2004 Chevy Silverado has lots of foreign made parts. I see the leaf springs on the rear axle are from Brazil.
Point being there came a time it was hard to get local made parts. Had to accept such. I sense a weak chance for a resurgence of USA made parts or at least the desire for such. Not clear such can be workable. Does it matter????

For these types of parts by accounts I've read and my own limited experience, nothing beats OEM for fitting right with no fuss.

For older Mustangs, I've read that even the Ford-licensed Dynacorn body parts made in the USA are not at the level of Ford OE in terms of quality and fitment.

There is a video of a shop doing a Land Cruiser build with the China body. It was not straightforward getting it all together.

It seems COO is not the issue in this case, for bodies and body panels the factory just does it better than aftermarket.

At this point it's still pretty much still an involved custom project to make a running car out of these, than a simple get a body and drop in the drivetrain and go that we'd like to imagine.

Hello; I am more interested in supporting the local economy if a local company can supply the parts. That said how parts fit does make difference. I have had to massage parts to get them to fit a few times.
On late model cars & trucks there may be some OEM stuff laying around somewhere. For older models the OEM stock can and often has been used up. I have not fitted a major part in a long time. I also have not used all aftermarket suppliers.

Back early in the Covid episode we soon found out some perils of not making basic PPE in country. Folks in my area made cloth masks from scratch. A 1968 Mustang body panel is not a critical resource the way PPE & antibiotics may be.

From the discussions I've read on these China replicas, EPA regs are a big reason there isnt much activity on that front in the US.

Back in the old days, I replaced some body panels on a couple early Mustangs. The original panel fit and alignment were not very good. So, even OEM replacements didn't fit without a lot of work.
