I’m convinced the expensive ones are made in the same place as the cheap Chinese ones !

The failure is down to water ingress. You need to seal the hole at the back of the light unit with silicone sealer. Once you’ve done that you won’t have an issue.
Are you referring to the main hole in the back ? Should that not be plugged / sealed with the factory style bulb holder ?

I used these T10 soft sockets to plug into my lights into but they were not fully water tight hence the addition of silicone sealer to complete the job

Also I found the wedge connection not the best so I ended up cutting the wires pushing them through the soft socket caps and and soldering them together.
