What do you think the shelf life is for a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's? Seller on eBay (no, not me) is selling new sets for $500 a pair (front or rear), but the tires have a production date of June 2015, so almost 4 years old. Considering these are high performance tires would you trust them for the street or track?

I"d personally be okay with that if i was going to run them this year.... but i also have no experience (yet) with the cup 2's! this is my first summer with them....

I bought a set from this seller in December. If I didn't have scrubs on the way, I'd be in for another set of (4) :)

My rule of thumb is uo to 6 years based on owning a garage queen that gets new tires based on time rather wearing them off :)

I think the years decrease with the softer track tires, but generally I'm on board with that 6 year limit for anything I drive on the highway.

It definitely decreases. And that car is wearing extreme performance shoes every time (similar to Cup2s - now it is on 71Rs). Is that rubber just as good at 6 years as it is new? Probably not but it is definitely still safe and definitely it retains most of the characteristics of the new rubber when it comes to grip, adhesion breakout characteristics etc. Now, I had the 'privilege' of experiencing extreme performance rubber at 8 years and I definitely would not call that safe any more (low grip and unpredictable adhesion breakout characteristics). What it also helps is how the rubber is preserved (temperature controlled vs not). All this is IMO, of course :)

HB, did you track them?
Currently sitting in my living room waiting to go. Should know in the next couple of weeks. They're still good. I have no worries personally.

Depends on the temperature in which they were stored.

There are about 3000 street miles, and two track days,10- 20 minute sessions on them now. I am an intermediate driver. Thanks for your input!

How much track time do you think I have left on these Cup2’s?
Those look 50% worn to me. Done that a few times over. I presume no camber plates. It depends on track days and your aggression, but ya, pretty confident you are about 50% wear until the outsides chord. More if you just street and don’t track
