As I was watching the Daytona 500 ( Camaro win, yuck) I wondered how long my new GT would last going wide open around that track only stopping for tires and fuel . There is a youtube video done by Mike Rowe for Ford at the Homestead speedway with a f150 ecoboost towing 11000 lbs for 24 hours wide open. How long do you guys and gals think our cars would last ? The nascar guys are turning around 9000 rpm.:ford:

That would be a fun test. I think there would be over heating issues as I don't think production vehicles are designed for WOT for long periods. I agree it sucks Ford didn't get the win but the iconic number "3" win is cool in another way.

Horrible race, the people who made the decision to put the lower aero skirts on the backs of the cars should be hanged, all it takes now is a little bit of dirty air focused on them and the car spins, all the drivers know this. It was pretty clear some of the many crashes today were not by accident, nobody wants to see that garbage.

A scripted race with a predictable ending, and no regard to the strongest cars on the track (Fords).
The #3 wins 20 years after the #3 won its first and only other time.
Surprise!?!

Actually, if you ran it in 6th gear it would last a hell of a long time since it would likely never get anywhere near redline. Tires would last a hell of a long time too, probably weeks and weeks. You'd die of boredom long before the car or tires gave up.:D

I did Charlotte's ROVAL, which isn't flat out 100% of the time, but I could induce a diff temp warning after 4 traffic-free fast laps. Oil temps were on the high side (pre-oil cooler) but not out of the green (at least with the inferred gauge in the car). Trans temp I have no idea but now that I have a gauge on it, I suspect it got pretty damn hot.

Then we have oil pressure at 1.2 to 1.6G on the oval's turn 3, which you can enter between 100 and 150 mph, depending on your car and bravery. I managed to tap 1.4G and enter at 126 MPH shaking in fear as it's not a smooth road to be on at all. I would suspect oil pressure is compromised with a stock oil pump and pan design, but my gauge did not seem to indicate as such when I did look, which wasn't too often.

If you were going for timed hard laps, I don't think the car would make it a full NASCAR event. I'd bet the trans or diff would go out first.

Ford ran the 350 on a few racetracks across the country for 24 hours stopping only for fuel and tires as well. Road courses, not ovals but still plenty of punishment.

#3 wrecking his way to a win just like old times. I quit watching nascar when they started using common templates regardless of the car makke.

I haven't watched NASCAR since 2004. That is about when I got into wheeling myself. Once you understand it better, you really realize how bad that brand of motorsport actually is. I agree, it is the WWE of racing.
