Hi folks,

Heading up to the dealers tomorrow to take a GT out for a spin.

I've never gotten my head around what is meant by the Reverse Parking Sensors as an optional extra as I thought the car already came with these?

Am I getting a reverse camera mixed up with sensors? Are sensors simply something that beeps at me?

Not a fan of the custom pack as looking to keep the black wheels on a white car.

Thanks!

Camera is standard, sensors are an option that beep at you.

Sensors are worth getting simply because the lens used on the camera makes it bloody useless for ooooh, I dunno, judging how far away things are from the rear of the car!! :frusty:

i second that, plus the sensors cover the rear corners, the camera only covers the middle

great thanks guys!

Sounds like ticking the box for parking sensors would be wise... for the Mrs of course!

To my knowledge, and use of the car (which is limited), the Camera is quite substantial, the sensors to pick up its blind spots though, but you're probably more than capable without them, depends if you want to shell out the few hundered more for the sensors or aftermarket them for cheaper?

I reversed the GT into a car park space when test driving yesterday - the reverse camera is ok, and has an overlay of the projected path where it thinks the car will go depending on which way the steering wheel is pointing. The optional parking sensors add another overlay with the distance in the three rear zones (left/right/middle), plus the beeps we're all used to over here. I just relied on the beeps and wing mirrors. Surprised there's no front sensor option though (the rear window pretty much IS the back of the car, but that long bonnet - well, parallel parking in a tight spot might take a bit of practice).

In the US they don't tend to use them, but that's because they usually have parking kerbs in parking spaces (like a big speed bump) that they just drive 'til they hit. Parallel parking is obviously something that happens in other uncivilised countries :)

Can't say i've ever P-parked since passing my test 3 or so years ago, i'll just go until I find a space I can drive into .

Front sensors deffo sound more appealing and i'd have gone for the parking senor extra had they been on it the more I look at the enormous hood.

I was always good at reverse parking and never had sensors until I got my current car a few years ago. I realised how much I'd come to rely on the sensors after accidentally cancelling them when backing out of my drive the other week! Nice big scuff on the bumper now.

Moral of the story is there are pros and cons. But I've ordered them on my 'Stang.

I got the sensors on mine for pure piece of mind, i've been driving for 20+ years but other people haven't! The camera is good and its fisheye so gives decent coverage, i just cant get used to looking at the screen when reversing though. I'm constantly checking my mirrors rather than looking at the screen, sensors are audibly on watch for me :)

All of that^.

It's a nice option to have come resale.

I just wish I could turn the camera off!

My garage is pretty tight and when it's dark I rely on being able to see the silhouetted edges to get out, but as soon as you select reverse the bloody screen lights up the inside of the car totally destroying my night vision & obliterating my reference points! :frusty:

As far as I can tell, the only way would be to take the rear decklid off and unplug the camera rendering it semi-permanently useless. I haven't found a way to temporarily disable it via the screen. Anyone?

what's this thread doing in UK section? Seems generic to me

in any case, I got base Mustang. Backup camera is good, but it would be better with reverse sensors. Mustang isn't that big, so I don't mind, but if I was parking in tights spots, I would prefer the sensors. Over the 5-10 years of owning the car, it very easily could save you a scuff or more.

Mustang is big in the UK! some parking spaces are too small for it, Costco is fine :D but thats because it follows the US style spaces (they're huge).
60% of our cars are fiesta size or smaller.

you all have a Costco? If its anything like ours, you need a big SUV or truck for that place. How else are you going to get 50 rolls of toilet paper (bogrolls?) back home?

how is the cost of a Mustang compare to a German car, say a BMW 435i?

Definitely getting parking sensors when I come to order. I think it'll save some heartache, plus will make reversing into the garage a lot easier (especially after a hard day at the office).
