Hey guys, so I am having somewhat of a mystery with my turbo where it refuses to build anything past 15lbs of boost and sounds as if there is a boost leak coming from somewhere. I have checked my charge pipes, intercooler, vacuum lines and even the exhaust side of things. Does anyone have an idea of where else it could be leaking from? It boosts a little slow to the 15 psi point and then it just sits there. It all started after I was running on my e30 tune and I did a muffler delete and it shot the boost up to 25lbs for a couple days. I'm not getting any smoke or anything so I seriously doubt the turbo is blown.

As someone else on here did, take it to an exhaust shop and have them do a smoke test on it to see where the leak is if there is one. I believe the person I'm talking about found the leak at the turbo and got it replaced under warranty

I would check the bypass valve to see if it is stuck open or leaking by

Is it possible that the car is on "overboost" mode where it cuts boost and power temporarily?

Thanks guys, I guess a smoke test is in order for me in the near future. Hopefully the turbo isn't cracked. I know that ford would not want to warranty that after a tune and an aftermarket intercooler. Time to return to stock and hope for the best or just JB weld that sucker hahaha. That was a joke, I don't think that would actually work.

Return to stock tune and drive around a few days, Ford will probably not even notice the aftermarket IC unless that's the leak, an intercooler really can't damage anything and the stock unit is so poor that it's a greater risk to the engine leaving it in.

For me it was just a coupler that I had to fix in conjunction with a very conservative tune at the time.

Now that I think about it, stock what is the boost limit at? I can't recall.

The stock boost limit is around 18 psi IIRC.

Not really a boost limit, but a demanded power limit. Cold temps will see less boost at the same power, so ~15-18 psi, but putting down the same power as stock at ~18-20psi. What you may think is power loss, is actually the same power at less boost.

That's what I thought. So when a person complained couldn't go past 18psi (assuming stock) I was a little confused.
