Roush CAI w/ Bama 93P Tune, engine knocking

Unfortunately, Bama performance has passed their support hours so I am hoping someone can help me out.

Background:
Today I installed the Roush CAI and removed the insert so that it is 105mm. I received a Tune from Bama for 93 race and installed it.

Problem:
It started really rough after the tune was in place and then it leveled out somewhat. I drove it around the block and when I was in 2nd gear or higher and the RPMS are between 2000-3500 RPM, there is a very loud engine pinging.

Steps Taken:
1. Reached out to Bama and they sent a new tune stating this new tune is using "AirRaid" as the CAI since that is who makes the Roush CAI. RESULT: Still a lot of pinging/knocking when driving around the block in the same RPM band

2. Reached back out to Bama and they sent another tune stating that the first one wasnt set properly for the Roush CAI with the insert removed. RESULT: Still pinging, nothing has changed

3. Reached out to Bama again and the guy asked where I get my fuel from (Shell) and that shouldnt be the problem but he will use less spark and that should fix the issue. RESULT: After research on my old forum posts I saw that I should put the tune and let the car Idle for 8 minutes then 2 more minutes with the A/C on so that it can learn better. The pinging is less, but still occurring during the same RPM range.

NOW:
Unfortunately bama support is not available as they have closed. My car is my DD and I will need to be in to work right about the time that they open. I do NOT want to drive with the pinging still occurring so I am reaching out for some help here.

I have the X4 tuner and some old posts (not regarding the 2015 GT) were talking about changing the tune settings for the "Spark Degrees" setting. Can anyone provide some insight on that?

Thanks in advance for any information that can be provided, I am just trying to not destroy my engine now that I have a Bama tune on there :-/

Honestly, I would put the stock tune back in until it is sorted out, no reason to risk the engine.

I appreciate the feedback but I do not want to take that all apart and put the stock intake back in there. Was hoping for an alternative to this in the meantime.

Really isn't much alternative here. You are hearing what sounds like spark knock I would not drive a car spark knocking. He asked about the fuel due to some places octane ratings are not quite accurate and just prolly verify u have good gas in the vehicle. It is your car but I would not drive a car spark knocking, I would reflash the factory tune and put the factory air box back on or at least put the piece back in to reduce the ID of the tube.

Really? You're gonna risk hurting your motor instead of swapping your intake back that will take about 10mins.

don't drive with it pinging unless you don't like your car

what happens if you leave CAI gear and just revert back to stock tune?

if that doesn't work, either put stuff back the way it was, or get a ride, take a cab, etc.

Thanks for the reminder about the insert. I will use that in the meantime so I can go back to stock tune.

**UPDATE**

Put the insert back into the CAI and returned to Stock with the tuner and she purrs again, no pinging. That is good because now I know I didn't mess anything up with the drives around the block with the pinging.

Thanks everyone for the advice and sorry for sounding like I was lazy (just didn't want to go through the hassle to put that Sound Tube back on).

I will reach out to Bama tomorrow morning and see what their response will be regarding their tune and how they can resolve it. I feel like I am a guinea pig for their Tuners and the damage they could have done on my engine. Frustrating to pay them so much money to feel like you are getting the "test tune."

I am very sorry to learn about these issues - it is not something that is normal or expected with our tunes.

Reached out via PM and followed up via PM and still no response from Bama. Still waiting to see what their "Lead Tech" can do to assist me at this time. Hopefully I can get a response prior to the weekend.

Since it is working fine on a stock tune would that point towards the tune and not the plugs?

*UPDATE*

I have spoken with Bama Performance Support and have confirmed that they do not fully support the ROUSH CAI with the *insert removed* That being the case, they have recommended that I keep the insert in place as they work on providing support for the tune that will allow the insert to be removed.

The reason being that the ROUSH CAI is fairly new to the market and they are in the process of moving their Dyno and development center so that it can be started. I was informed to check back in over the next few months to see if they have any ETA on having the tune 100% supported for the insert removal.

Just an FYI for anyone having issues with the Bama tune and their ROUSH CAI with the insert removed.

Not fond of Bama after what they pulled with my car, but hope they get it right for you. I know you paid for their "tune" but if you want full power w/o the insert, find a respected local tuner.
