I am thinking I will be upgrading my clutch very soon... what I would like to know is, can the install be done at home using a floor jack and jack stands or is it better to just pay a shop to do it?

I am versed in doing clutches but have never done a ford on the floor...

Anyone have a video by any chance?

Thanks.

I did mine with a quick jack. I would say get yourself a transmission jack or similar to help with letting it down. Other than that you should be able to do it yourself. Its fairly easy.

Did mine right outside my garage on stands. I use the heavy duty truck stands though and it gets the car really high. I used a motorcycle lift jack to take the trans out the side after getting it uncoupled.

From the videos I've seen, it looks easier that the SN95's I've done. I do understand that it has to be taken into the dealership for crank phasing. or something like that? Some hand held tuners can do this also, from what I have read here.
I'm wanting to upgrade to the McLeod RST and flywheel, but cannot justify the expense until mine wears out or implodes like the ones I've seen here do.

...Hmmmm, maybe I should let my wife drive it more!

Well that's good to hear. I couldn't figure out why any tuning adjustments would be necessary, it just didn't make sense to me.

You mean crank re-learn?

I know the nGauge does not do it but the former model tuner does. Not sure what it entails.

I'd also like to see a how to or a video on this. The one on SVT basically says unbolt the exhaust, remove transmission, replace. I wasn't able to see any videos. I hope long tubes don't need to be removed to do this!

Here is a video CJ did for an RXT install will be the same for other clutches also.

I have heard you don't have to take off the passenger cat or o2 sensors maybe someone who is here can chime in and let us know I will be doing the install soon also.

If you know anyone with SCT X4 you can use it to do a crank relearn. It doesn't need to programmed to the car and does not change the tune. All you do is rev it to 4200 and you are done. Make sure you do this 100% as the car will throw a soft code and you wont see it.

The problem is if the ring even moves a couple of thousandths it will effect the timing.

That makes sense... thanks.

I tried to do a crank re-learn on mine after installing an RXT - the x4 gave an error having to do with a tune that adjusted rev limiter, etc., and it would perform the relearn.

Regardless, I have close to 2k miles with no relearn and it functions fine. Ken at Lund also said that I shouldn't need a relearn. I've heard both ways.

We're going to have some killer deals on Mcleod during our 12 days of Christmas Sale which starts next week. Details and a calendar for the sale get announced tomorrow.

So if you're wanting to do a clutch upgrade in the near future you may want to take advantage of this sale as the discount we'll be offering only happens once a year.
