Automatic updates

I connected my GT350 to my home wireless network yesterday and set it up to receive updates. Have you guys done this? Do you see a down side?

I have not done this yet as I have yet to get mine, but that's what I would do. So when the car is off can the stereo (assuming small battery trickle) still see the wi-fi in the house?

You should be fine. The biggest risk is that they rollout an update and someone finds an issue/bug later. Could be slightly annoying. Not something I'd personally worry about. I like having the latest features & fixes asap.

As a computer programmer, you definitely want to get the latest updates. There is not much downside to doing it. There will always be bugs, but you will have the latest fixes.

More than likely only SYNC 3 updates.

Any kind of ECU update would require to be done at the dealer through the OBDII port.

Mine can seem to pick up either of my wifi networks. I was outside of the house at that point though...

no downside, it's there for convenience. Updates are only in kb sizes and it will do it while you warm up the engine.

Probably not that small, but not enough to worry about. MB rather than GB.

I would assume at least infotainment and nav. I hope nav receives updates, because otherwise it's pretty much worthless.

Just wondering - do you work for Ford? It's hard to tell tone from text but you sound very certain about it. If I were designing the system it would pull updates at any time, not just during warm up. Warm up is too short to download much.

yes. I watched in a video where it says updates are only email sized chunks.

Updates can happen whenever, no way of predicting, but the most likely time you'd get the update is in the morning when you first start it up.

I would doubt that. The car is usually sitting for hours at a time. It has PLENTY of battery capacity to receive some data while the engine is off. On the other hand, I back the car out of the garage immediately on start up, so that strategy would have some down side.
