Why do you say "not interested in ecoboost"? Both STs that you're interested in are ecoboost engines... You talk a lot about tuning and performance, so an ecoboost is the clear choice. If you want a Mustang but want tuning and power on the cheap $$$, go ecoboost.
nothing cheap about 4 cylinder turbo's youll spend 4000 to get 60 hp not to mention no one wants to drive a mustang that sound like a ricer.

Coming from a FWD, lighter, Chevy Cruze, I think I can answer some of these. Also worth mentioning, I've always driven lighter, smaller, 4 cyl cars until this one.

-How liveable is the car for real world driving in rainy conditions? I'm sure modern day traction controls throw that whole FWD>RWD thing out the window?

I haven't had any issues and it's been raining here a shitload since I got the car a few weeks ago.

-How fun is the car to drive? Does the added weight just make it feel like a ho-hum 2 door midsizer or does the car feel tossable and sporty?

With this, I'd say it feels in between what you described. Coming from my previous car(s) I noticed the added weight right away, but after a few days of driving, feel completely used to it. Overall, the car feels more "solid", if that makes sense - and it's not a bad thing.

-Does the long wheelbase and hoodline make manuverability difficult tough in tight spaces or does the turning circle make up for it?

The hood is also something to get used to. With the Cruze, you could almost see straight down to the ground, or at least that's what it seemed like. Again, with the hood, you get used to it. If you're a good driver, you shouldn't have any problems parking or with maneuverability in general.

-Does the car feel big/clunky?

It feels its weight. Again, coming from a lighter car, I noticed the difference. Like I said before, it makes the car feel more solid and sturdy compared to cars I've driven in the past. I enjoy it.

-How is the reliability of the 2015 MT82? I plan to take this car to the 1/4 mile here and there so I would like something that can take some abuse.

You'll get varying responses with this. Some people swear by it, but I have heard mentions of it being a "cheap(er)" transmission that's apparently built in China. With that said, I haven't seen anyone on here mention any serious issues.

-How much is the V6 to insure compared to the Fiesta ST?

This will depend on your own personal situation/driving record/age/etc. I just turned 25 a few months before getting this car and saw my insurance rates drop about $60/mo. I have zero infractions on my insurance - not even a single ticket. Full coverage on the Cruze, I was paying about $150/mo. Full coverage on the Mustang, I'm paying about $170 I believe (Progressive Insurance).

Hope this helps!

I guess I should have clarified, not interested in the Ecoboost in the Mustang. Though depending on what deal I'm offered when I'm ready to pull the trigger it could go either way at this point but ever since the cyclone was released in 2011 I've wanted one since, so much cheap n/a potential there for my basic needs. Both the V6 and Eco Mustangs are still quicker than any of the ST cars stock for stock so there is no loser in my book. I figure with tune and bolt-ons for the v6 if I'm in the mid/high 13's it's good enough for me. Also your 14 sec 1/4 mi run w/ 20" wheels has me almost sold. :D

When I went to the dealer I traded my ms3 in due to some issues and was looking for a gt which I didn't get becuase they didn't have any that were low miles so I looked at the new v6 which is what I bought, its a lot more fun than my mazda even though I had about 320hp in the mazda to the wheels and it was faster then my mustang its way more fun to play with that than any fwd.. but I did drive a focus st when I was there just to do it, and it was awful no clutch in it felt awful got on it felt terribly slow and overall wasn't something id consider but thats my opinion..
I think the only real advantage the ST has over the Mustang is cargo, the Mustang is quicker in the 1/4, pulls better lateral g's, and is just all around quicker while still being nicely priced. However I can understand how some people can enjoy the "feel" of the ST cars better. The fit and finish in the Mustang vs the Focus is night and day. The car feels so premium and imo does not feel hefty like a Challenger despite the added weight compared to previous years.

The sound of the 2.3 doesn't bother me but I just enjoy the 3.7. My bolt-on 2.0 Duratec Zx3 is obnoxiously loud lol. I've seen what the 2.3 can do and they are pretty impressive but I should know since they are similar to the 2.0/2.3 families in the Focus. Great engines.

After driving all the cars I am definitely sold on the Mustang, I also do not have any infractions. I don't think a V6 or Eco Mustang will be that bad on insurance. State Farm here. And once again thank you for your feedback Remote and everyone else.

I went through the same thing....with the exact same cars.

Focus ST: Said forget that, as soon as I saw the price tag at the dealership. Not paying that much for a Focus...

Fiesta ST: REALLY wanted this car. Well that is until I sat in one and that immediately made me cross it off my list. VERY small and crunched inside that thing.

Mustang V6: Cheap, reliable, sexy, rides great and has decent power (faster than all above). Biggest con is the amount of attention this thing gets...

Wanted a car as mostly a daily driver and it works great. Now, if I lived in a mountainous region, I may have chosen something else, but I don't.

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead but decided to post an update. It turns out the yellow Mustang I test drove that I thought was a v6 was in actuality a 2.3 EB PP (a noobish mistake on my part), my local Ford dealership finally had a white 3.7 6MT on the lot and holy hell is this car one of the best kept secrets for 23k. I know the 2.3EB is slightly faster but the 3.7 V6's dynamics won me over and to me feels all around better/crisper than the 2.3L. What great times we are living in, this V6 felt better than some older V8s with plenty of power under the curve to boot. I'd say my decision is made, now to finish paying off my current car and finding a Mustang base V6 in competition orange.

Have fun! It is definitely an underrated engine for the price point. It sounds great and is plenty quick, you will definitely enjoy it. Post up when you buy it and when you start modding it.

Thanks man, that it is. Power like this used to cost a premium and now it's base. I already have a list of mods mapped out including long tube headers. See you all when I am ready to pull the trigger. :ford:

I've driven both he focus and fiesta ST. I wasn't really impressed by the fiesta ST. It feels like a go kart. Granted when I test drove it I was driving a RT Chrger. The focus ST is way better. I love the interior of the ST3. Performance is decent but I'm sure some mods will open it up real quick.

I currently have a 2013 premium so same engine and transmission different wrapping. The engine is pretty good. Just as quick as my old charger just not nearly as much torque. I haven't really had any issues and I've got nearly 55k on the odo. I've got a few mods. Definitely get some exhaust and lowering springs. I've got Borla ATAKs and an airraid CAI and it sounds sweet. People think it's a GT all the time since it rumbles pretty good.

The 3.7 is a solid engine that is respectable. You'll shortly be longing for a V8 though. I'll be upgrading here in the next year or two. I've got some upgrades I've got to do to the house before I can upgrade my ride. But I do love my car and really love the new gen, especially that interior. That was one of the biggest gripes about the previous gen.

When your looking for a 2015 V6 Mustang

In your search for your mustang get the 51A Premium package, it includes driving lights, power driver seat with lumbar pump, nice 18" wheels and a small bump spoiled. The mods I installed are.

K&N ait filter (stock box) $55.00

Unleashed Tuner 93 $399.00 (removed limiter 7400 rpm's, auto trans shifts hard and quick, only use sport mode, paddle shifting)

SK throttle body spacer $120.00

JMS throttle pedal MAX $270.00
(this is a must, increase voltage to throttle pedal sensor, makes the throttle pedal very quick no lagging from a stop or idle 650 rpm's all the way to top end)

I test drove mine in january, it was 5 degrees F and had all season tires on asphalt. The car's rear end was all over the place and i was laughing like a kid.
I knew right there it was the car for me.

Are you thinking about getting 3.55 gears?
