It's easier with a vise grips. Who doesn't own a set of those??

I have tried the vise grip method with no luck. It was actually a royal pain the ars to try and get them to grip because the space between the spring rungs is so narrow. People here say it is easy with just their hands, so I will now try that method instead.

Highly recommend using vise grips locking pliers

Finally success. Thanks everyone for your patience. Not sure what plastics clips folks are breaking. Don't see any here on mine.

I know vice grips aren't "needed" but it sure is easy with them

Took mine off today, didn't get a chance to drive it though... hope it feels better when I do! I used the vice grip method but somehow it came off in all 3 pieces... Top, bottom, and spring. Not sure how that happened as it seems others in the tread didn't have that outcome.

Edit: Update, I couldn't stand to wait. Took it around the block and liked it so much that I went on a little cruise around the subdivions near me. What an incredible difference!!! The car is fun to drive now because it's easy to drive! I can enjoy it rather than concentrating so hard on driving.

This thread is long, and maybe someone already posted the info ... but if someone who has the spring out could measure the two dimensions (diameter and length) shown that would be appreciated. Might try to find a spring the same size but much softer than the stock spring.

Credit to Cueball for the photo. :)

I get 2 3/16" x 1 5/8" outside dimensions. The spring itself is about 3/16" wide.

My review - yes clutch pressure is much more pronounced. Maybe 30% higher - very subjective. Much smoother and more linear. Love it. I have no slop at the top. :)

2.2in OD X 1.2in ID X 0.2in coil diameter

Looks like it approximately 200 lb/in spring rate

We should count the number of times this has been said.

Mods...sticky, please?
Right, and this can't be preached enough either.....anyone who is still planning to do this please use safety glasses when performing.

I took my spring out a couple of weeks after buying the car. I think the stock feel is way too light and without the spring it's still very light, but much, much better overall feel. I'm 49 and have about 1.75 million miles standard shift experience. Anyone that thinks the pedal is heavy with or without the spring hasn't experienced what a real mechanical old school clutch feels like. Maybe a Honda or 2 too many in the past? Back in the day a good quality, high performance mechanical clutch had some real weight behind it. My 125 lb wife who really can't drive a stick that well thinks it's light and easy without the spring. 435 hp with a clutch pedal this light is as easy as walking to the restroom.
I had a 1970 Duster, I built up the 340 engine a little. I put a Hays pressure plate in it. I do believe it was a 3500 lb. rated. You hold the clutch in through a traffic light and your leg would start shaking from the pressure.

Ok guys, based on the unloaded stock spring dimensions given to me by Cueball and Need 4 Speed, I found a softer spring made out of stainless steel that looks like it would work in place of the stock spring. And it's much softer, so the pedal would retain most of it's feel as with the spring out, but ensure the pedal is always fully up to the top when out. Anyone willing to order one and give it a try? Only $7.68.

I just removed mine took like 30 seconds. Btw try not to have your head near the spring when you slide it off, the two plastic ends kind've fly off. Lol Here's a pic of the spring and the plastic ends shortly after removal. Oh and like everyone else says, wear something to protect them eyes!
