Not necessary to remove, especially if you've never driven a manual. Most people removing it are doing so to match a certain feeling they are used to from past manuals that they've had. If you've never had one, then it shouldn't affect you. With every manual transmission you have to adjust to the car to a certain degree. Many people who take it out, take it out so they don't have to adjust as much.

Keep in mind, when you remove the spring it'll be difficult to do so w/o breaking part of it. No big deal for most people, since most love the feel when it's out. But there have been one or two who took it out and want it back in. Either way you go you'll enjoy driving this beast. Good luck!

Having not driven the manual, does having this spring give issues like feathering the clutch in first? My dealer won't let anyone test drive the mustangs till it's warmer out due to the summer tires and crappy salty, cold Michigan roads.

Find a different dealer, I test drove the one I purchased 3 times in the past few weeks. Roads are mostly clear by now, sorta.
