tiny hairline scratches

hey all,

So I just picked up my brand new 2015 black mustang on saturday from the dealer. Its been sitting on the lot for a bit and it seems to have been a car that would get test driven.

They waxed it up all nice and I rode it the long ride home and today, in the middle of my routine half hour adoration of the car :hail: i started to notice those really fine hairline thin scratches or whatever you want to call them all over certain parts of the car.

I had bought a versa thats currently 5 years old that had been sitting in its lot (with the hood wrap amnd stuff still on) when I picked it up that to this day has none of these, what seem to be, cleaning/cloth related markings on it.

I was wondering what I could do to get rid of all this b/c its bothering me so much , especially since its brand new?

Welcome to black car ownership. I picked up some equipment from chemical guys and every couple of weeks buff the car with at least a jewelers polish and then a wax. If need be I use a heavier compound to cut down and hairline scratches like you see. If I happen to see something on my car and I wipe it with my shirt it leaves marks, then it buffing time again.

I bought a 2015 Black GT 50th Anniversary packaged car........kept it 2 months and traded it. No more black cars for me. LOL. :lol:

You'll spend all your waking hours polishing that car if those scratches bother you already.:headbonk:

Been through the black car thing and as they can look gorgeous I was done with the constant up-keep fighting the swirl marks that show so much more with that color. Time to buy a good DA polisher some cutting pads and cutting compound, have fun.

As previously said, welcome to black car ownership. They will fade out with a good polish. But guess what, they will come back over and over, lol. I myself like to use a California duster and that easily will cause webbing. As one poster said, he keeps his black car up to snuff with a polish every few weeks.

I am in the process of doing the exact same thing Ultrakla$$ic! I purchased a black 15 EB Premium (auto and Performance Pack) in September. I have just about worked a trade for a 15 GT (RR Premium). Black is too hard to keep clean and it is a PIA to constantly maintain. No more black cars for me ever again. By the way, where in LA are you? I am from outside of Shreveport.

My first car was black. Never again. I now only buy white or grey.
Anyways to get rid of it, get a polish and a random orbital buffer like Porter-Cable.
The dealer probably didn't wash it clean enough before waxing it.
You need to use two bucket method to wash it also wash it frequently.

Welcome to the Black Brotherhood. Invest in a orbital and plan on one day a month for upkeep. Or find yourself a quality detail shop and fork out the cash.

I bought my black Mustang knowing that it would not be a daily driver. No snow, no rain, no road salt, and I never use a cloth or duster to wipe off the car. For a non daily driver I would not have another color. The black Mustangs just look bad ass in my opinion. If it was my daily driver no black for me though. My dealership does not do the constant washing and wiping by a bunch of temps like other dealerships. The cars on their lot look horrible dirty depending on how long they have been there but the first wash at purchase is the only way that they perform. They are quick to point that out. There is a dealership down the road from my neighborhood that pressure washes and wipes off the new cars every Thursday night before the weekend customer traffic. I would bet their black cars look great! I don't think a $7.00 an hour temp really gives a damn!

This is the cost of black ownership. It is hands down the most rewarding color(reflection out the wazoo), and looks the best(FACT), but it is also the most difficult color to take care of. Even if you are super careful, 2 bucket wash method, separate wash mitts for the top and bottom portion of the car, yada yada, you will still get swirl marks. It's just a fact.

This is why I am setting aside $7500 to get my future mustang paint corrected(straight from the dealer, mind you) and full car clear bra. If I went with White, I wouldn't have to do any of that because it's the most easy color to take care of.

A multi bucket system works well for eliminating as much swirl and scratches as possible but you will still get them. You will just have to deal with it or pay to have it fixed occasionally. Clay baring helps too.

Depending on how severe the micro scratches are, you may be able to use something like Meguiars Ultimate Compound and polish them out by hand.
