What's everyone got planned (if anything) as far as stone chip protection goes?

I'm considering a clear stoneguard film such as offered by this mob:

Don't wish to go overboard, but I think bumper, bonnet and mirror protection is probably a good idea.

I also looked at similar products. Then considered a full wrap, but at the end of the day it's a 60k car. If I can get it done by a reputable place for well under 1k I'll do it.

But saying that, by the time my car comes there is likely to be a technological breakthrough on paint protection anyway

From reading other posts, I gather that the paint on these are quite thin and soft.
Some form of protection might be a good investment.

Im looking at something for he front bumper area as well but from previous experience I believe ozi cozi is one of the more dearer options maybe a group buy from a distributor in the states might be the go.

Approximately 4 years ago, my friend bought a new Porsche 911.
He had some form of paint protection film applied to all the panels forward of the windscreen.
I think it may have been a 3M product.
After 18 months this protection film stared to get a yellowish tinge to it.
He had it removed and had to get all the panels where the film was, cut, buffed and polished.
He said he would rather live with the odd stone chip, and if need be, have the panel resprayed, currently around A$500.00 for a panel respray with no damage to it.
No doubt over the last 4 years, these paint protection films would have improved in quality.

I believe ozi cozi is one of the more dearer options

A mate of mine just got his new STi pretty much totally wrapped there.

Didn't get any change from three grand.

I'm really at a loss as to what I'm going to do with mine. I had it set in my head that I was going to get the leading edge of the bonnet, bumper and mirrors done, but after seeing some cars that have had it then had it removed I'm kind of swaying away from it. When removed it can leave a distinct line where the paint had been protected vs exposed to the elements - they were all on darker coloured cars however.

My Mustang is triple yellow, so it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as the darker colours admittedly.

I have seen some demonstrations of the new products on the market recently - some of them are self healing when heat is applied, quite impressive actually.

i'm planning on getting everything front of the windscreen done, mines race red so UV protection will be a big issue with the aussie sun, also i drive about 80km/day on the M1 so yeah stone chip protection is also going on the list, originally i was thinking about a car bra but then thought "nah i cant do that to such a nice car"
i'm planning on going with opticoat over the entire car and on the inside too, it will thicken the coating so avoid most stone chips etc, and just get touch ups done every year or so. still a lot cheaper than the film kits.

i really think it is needed on the brighter colours as the aus sun kills them pretty quickly especially red

I'm thinking of Opticoat and Tint at Solar Style in Brissy.
Anyone been to Solar Style? Any good?

After seeing the paint damage due tot he sun on my XR8 and hearing about the thinness of the paint from the Americans, a full wrap is pretty high on my list.

The missus is a graphic designer and does wrap designs at her work so we talked about doing something cool with a wrap anyway, but I'm thinking at least having it wrapped in clear purely for protection.

the problem with the wrap rather than the coat is the adhesive used in alot of them is what yellows with time, its the heat that yellows it. and in aus we get that UV and heat in spades, unless you get real lucky and get a good batch of the good stuff it will yellow somewhat quickly (years), not a problem if you get a tripple yellow car, but on an ingot silver or oxford white it will be really noticable, also not a problem if you go for some awesome design rather than just clear.

I'm just going to live with the stone chips. In my mind it's just something that happens, no point getting stressed, adds character

I'm not convinced that expensive paint protection will somehow stop stone chips. Although I admit to never having had ming or opticoat etc ever.

Can anyone point to research that shows these products can stop chips?
