Hey folks - I just had my x-pipe replaced with the Lethal h-pipe about 10 days ago. I had hoped it would tame or replace more of the Roush muffler rasp but that is not the case.

I had the Borla Stinger catback on my 03 Cobra and the sound was just amazing. I know the 4.6 4V will sound different than the Coyote 4V. I am looking for folks thoughts on how they feel the Borla Stinger mufflers will sound welded in place of the Roush mufflers? On my Cobra, which had an h-pipe there was zero rasp on that setup. I am crossing my fingers that if I pull the trigger and get the stinger mufflers ($330 shipped) my raspiness will be gone.

Anyone care to share their thoughts if the rasp will be gone by changing out the mufflers? I really want to stick with the round mufflers like the Roush and Stingers are.

Thanks in advance!

I can't comment on Borla Stingers(different than S-Types?) swapping out the Roush mufflers, but the easiest way to tame rasp is installing mid-mufflers/resonators in the pipes before the mufflers. Dynomax, Pypes, Borla and a few others make straight through mufflers than can be welded in the pipes before the rear axle and will do a great job at cutting down the rasp.

And thanks for helping me remind people that x-pipes don't cause rasp.

I wonder if going this route will help and to what degree will it help? I don't want this to become an endless exhaust project :).

My concern is that these Roush mufflers with an X/H will have rasp no matter what I do. This is why I want to go the Stinger (S-type round mufflers) as I know what their sound is like when paired with an H (4.6 4V, I know).

I am having the hardest time trying to get the exhaust to sound like I want it to. Did not have the issue on my 03 Cobra.

I don't think they will sound anything like they did on your Terminator. Your best bet is the mid-muffler idea I posted earlier. If you did swap mufflers I would recommend somthing with more baffling but that wouldn't be a straight round muffler like the Roush/Stinger.

Good to know on mid-muffler.

What mufflers would you recommend instead of the Borla's?

I'm thinking of having some mid mufflers or resonators welded in my FRPP Sport kit to quiet down this annoying rasp. I like the throaty sound but the mid rpm rasp is not to my liking at all.

Looks like the mid muffler is the way to go, it seems.

Keep your Roush's for now and see how the mid mufflers sound before changing anything else.

I just bought these. 2.5" and will be delivered on Tuesday. Crossing my fingers that this gets rid of the rasp:D. Will get them welded in behind my h-pipe.

Father has a S550 that we installed ONLY Roush axlebacks on, ZERO rasp. X-pipes are known to cause more rasp than H-pipes, if you're still getting rasp with H-pipes, your best best is as your doing and putting some resonators in, can't guarantee it will help however.

I had my Roush with the factory resonator in place. Car sounded good. I wanted it a bit louder, hence the X and H installations.

I don't expect these Pypes to get ride of it all but most of it and to tame the rasp, if you will. Crossing my fingers.

This is what I am thinking about doing in the spring. I love the Roush axleback but want it a little louder. Was thinking of doing an x pipe and adding in 2 bullet style mufflers or resonators to tone down the rasp. Excited to hear what yours sounds like
