My latest project

I got fed up with all of the crazy finger prints all over the shifter bezel and decided to do something about it. I had to pull it apart when I installed my shift boot, so I knew how the pieces separate. I was going to try to wrap it in some CF vinyl, but that turned out to be a fail. So, now I am going to paint it. I'm thinking a metallic silver Wil look good. The first step was to fill the stupid powered by Microsoft lettering. You can't really tell in the pic, but I filled it with epoxy putty and sanded it flat. Next step will be to scuff the whole piece, hit it with some adhesion promototer, then high build primer, then paint and clear. It will be wet sanded between steps. I'll post pics as I complete the steps. So far:

Next thing you know, you'll be pulling off all the chrome pieces to repaint them. :clap2:

I liked the interior chrome at first, but stuff like the steering wheel trim keeps glaring in my eyes. Those pieces are definitely going to get wrapped when it comes time to swap my steering wheel out.

I'm about 75% done de-chroming the interior. So far I've used 3M brushed steel black vinyl-- next pieces are the vent/gauge surrounds.

How will you affix the shift boot since they were plastic riveted? What's the new shift boot?

My biggest issue was the finger prints. I'm not even sure where they came from, but they were always there. I keep a microfiber towel in my console and would constantly wiping the thing off.
