So my dad just called me, pretty darn upset. He backed his RV into the front passenger panel of my '15. (edit: photos below). The crazy part is I'm storing the car there for the winter for safe keeping... I can't be mad at him though, and I'm not, just feel really bad for him. However, I have a few questions for you experts:

- can I get Ford to do the repairs? (update: it should be going to the local dealership where I bought it)
- will this go on my vehicle's carfax report as an accident or anything?
- is there a chance of them trying to just push dents out instead of replacing the fender?
- are there fitment issues I should be looking for, like the hood not closing perfectly or alignment issues?
- any chance this will total the vehicle due to frame damage?
- any claim of diminished value possible or necessary?

Aw, man, say it isn't so! Maybe the only solace is that you didn't inflict the damage yourself.

(BTW, big fan of your Avatar, it's in the top 5 for sure!)

Hmm, on second thought, ask your dad if he's always wanted a Mustang. :D

If I were you, I'd try to work out a way to repair it with a Ford dealership or a Ford-certified body shop with a lifetime guarantee. I'd keep insurance out of it. So long as the job is done right and with factory parts and paint and paint techniques, it should be invisible and, so long as you don't claim insurance, it won't go on the Carfax or incur a DV penalty.

The good thing is, being a '15, you have little to worry about with regards to paint age so you should be able to get a perfect match. Certain colors (ruby red, oxford white) may be more difficult to match but a Ford shop will be able to do the job.

Thanks, guys. My dad (and me) are by-the-books types, so he took photos and went straight away to his local insurance provider. I did tell him to let them know that I require the local Ford dealership and body shop where I bought the car to do the repairs, so I'm hoping you're right about the perfect repair, brandon.

So I guess it'll go on the Carfax, right? Man, I really really love this car and wanted it to be my perfect angelic beauty for decades to come. It was going to be my garage queen. I don't know how I feel now.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your Mustang. First, it's your Dad and how can anybody be mad at their Dad. Second, it's an accident. It happens to the best of us.

I work for an major insurance company, and I personally don't how they report it to Carfax. I handle D/V claims before and it really no formula to it. Most of the time, people make D/V claims for money. Now, if it is a C7Z, muscle car (Hemi), high end car, or collectible than it may have a D/V claim.

Personally, I would make sure the repairs are done correctly. If you plan to keep it long term why worry about D/V. Are you planning on selling it anytime soon?

Take it from me, no modern car short of the FGT, will ever be collectible. Don't store and save them. Drive them and enjoy them. My C5 Z is going on 14 years old and it has been garaged all its life with 38,000 miles on it, however due the malfunctioning electronics I'm not sure how long it will last. That's the difference between the modern cars and the classic cars....darn electronics. Mark my words, unless it is a Shelby or Boss, it's not worth saving for someone else to drive. Drive it, and stop worrying about small stuff. Even the Shelby and Boss are losing value. Enjoy your car within reason!

Thanks for the info and the sound advice. I love driving the sucker and don't want to purely store it like UltraKla$$ic does :D But I'm hoping to have her around as long as possible. I'll admit to not fully understanding the purpose of D/V claims, but I'm slowly realizing it's not worth trying for that.

I'll keep updating this thread on the claim and the repairs.

That car's definitely going to need a fender. Maaaaay have damaged the exhaust too, dad. Gotta replace it with an aftermarket one ;)

That sucks man. Hope you're able to get that taken care of soon. Have to bring mine to the shop first thing Monday morning to get out a dent and scratches.

Good luck man. Sub'd!

Damn, man. Sorry to hear/see this. I had my car for one week before my girlfriend hit mine. We have really close side by side spots. She paid to have it fixed. It sucks.. but you will get over it, especially after it looks better.
