The same message can be delivered in many different ways. How it's done does still count. ;)
True, to a point.

Where we differ is on the extent to which we must sanitize our thoughts before posting lest we might hurt the feelings of the planet's most easily offended.

In my younger years, anybody who would have complained about admonitions as mild as to 'just get the AT if you can't get the hang of driving stick' would have been told to "buck up and don't let it bother you". Or as much more recently put to music by the Eagles, "get over it".

I think if anything, people were more polite when you were growing up than they probably are today (if you take internet manners into account).

It's not about coddling today's youth, it's just about showing each other respect. No one throughout history has ever enjoyed being insulted directly or indirectly, and no one throughout history has ever been a good debater or influencer because of their ability to offend their interlocutor.

In some respects, yes, in others, not.

You grew up not letting your feelings get easily bruised, because if word got around that you were bothered by the way people phrased their thoughts you'd have been labelled a "sissy" and taunted all the more for it. The 1950's and early 1960's was not a time to display a "softer you", and you either made the little "sticks and stones" nursery ditty work or you suffered. Worked for us . . .

I'm that asshole that blips from 6th to 2nd spiking revs up to the midrange when slowing down. I just think of it as an opportunity to listen to the exhaust.

No practical wear to be afraid of.
lolol.. same.
