FYI....if the wastegate valve has the same design as the ones on the Turbo Buicks, a small gator clip, like used on test lights, will work just fine. Those factory clips on a Buick were notorious for disappearing into the void if given an opportunity to...lol. Damn things made Houdini look 2nd rate when it came to escaping .Well I took mine back out, readjusted the preload to 2mm per the instructions and yes it does make a difference. By the way, the bolt on the bottom is a 27 Torx if anyone needs to know. It's very difficult to see there. And be careful with that stupid little retaining clip on the wategate rod end. I managed to keep hold of it the first time but this second time it went flying!

Man that is SO true! I was so careful too after almost losing it the first time and panicking a little yet it still got away. Can you give more information and where I might find the gator clip you're talking about? I used an e-clip I found at the auto parts store which isn't the best since the middle part of the "E" doesn't have a hole to go into but it is holding ok and seems pretty sturdy. I'd like to get a couple of those to have around if I have to do this again.
Oh 1 more tip for removal. To make it easier to get that bottom 27 Torx bolt of the bottom of the heatshield, remove that little can looking thing on the motor mount so you have room to get a ratchet in there. It just bolts on from the top with a 10mm and lifts right out. Use a long extension.
You mean you can't get it out or you got it out, it's trashed and you can't re-install the heat shield? If you need another bolt, Ford actually sells that one individually. I just went to the parts counter and told him the bottom bolt on the heat shield for the turbo. He was able to find the part number quickly.I Stripped the torch bolt. Anyway around it? Is the heat shield actually needed? Rookie mistake over here. :(
In another thread, one guy showed how he welded an old socket to the bolt. Then used the ratchet to back it out. I'm not sure how well it would work but on that same thought line, not everybody is a welder, maybe put a spot of super glue on the end of a torx 27 bit and stick it in there so it's as close as it can get. Let it set for an hour to cure a bit, then try to back it out.I can't take it out. It's very sensitive and I did the same thing you did. I thought it was a hex and stripped it now can't take it off.
Agreed! I was stupid enough to buy a replacement bolt from Ford and put a new one in there... :frusty: I really should have found a suitable replacement bolt...I stripped mine when trying to do this installation. I tried the rubber band trick, I tried to clamp anything I could find onto it. I tried extractors with no luck due to the tight space (even with the little canister removed).
I ended up taking it in to get some help. When he got a grip on it (I'm assuming by welding something onto it like others have mentioned), the head just snapped off. That torx screw is a complete nightmare.
