Easy answer to that.

Makes production more streamlined and cost efficient for them. 1 general build with "options the majority of buyers" (which means what the average buyer) will opt for, for the whole of Australia with minimum amount of customization (wheels/stripes etc).

Options are not a problem for Ford US, so technically they should not be a problem for Ford AU but obviously they are for what ever reason. If they don't want to call the top of the range interior trim an option, then add on a 1000 bucks or whatever to the price of the car and make the trim standard. No one would know or care about the price of the car and at the same time be absolutely thrilled when they sit in the car and look around to feel and observe the opulence.

When I placed an order in January, was told the estimated price for a GT fastback is $75K. Despite this, they still had 12 other orders prior to me placing an order. So yes, people won't really care.

However, whoever makes the decisions of "standard options" etc at Ford AU should be fired.

you forget one main point. USA can not get the PP on autos. We can. So with that one 'option' we are better off than USA.

I got my Etis list of specs today, having had a build date of Oct 2.
On the list it says "Asian Radio Frequency"
Surely we're not getting the restricted FM bands that are used in Asia requiring an external band expander to be added so that we can get local FM radio stations?
Please tell me I'm wrong!

I haven't properly listened to the radio in a car in years.
Once was when I had to drive my mum's car and she had the radio turned on.
The rest of the time it's so we have some white noise for my kid to fall asleep

Anyway, that aside, when I was in Japan I went to buy a car stereo system. In Japan they have a very limited frequency range (76–90 MHz) so they had two sets of models - Japan, and 'global'. Global covered (87.5–108.0 MHz).

So my guess is either the asian band covers Japan as well or it could have to do with the digital radio bands - I think the US uses different bands from rest of world for DAB.

Still don't understand this - we're getting manual verts in the UK, so it's not a RHD issue / saving - can't think why they didn't offer them in Aus...

The Uk vehicles have their radio bands described as "GCC radio frequency"
so lets hope our radios will work in NZ & Oz without modification, another delay is the last thing we need

Sounds very odd - I thought GCC was Gulf (Arab) state - maybe they share radio frequency allocations the same as the UK?
Or maybe it's a different acronym...


I googled some - here in AU the band used for DAB seems to be the same as is used for some TV stations in the US (and they use something else for DAB),
FM on the other hand seems to be the same range in US, UK and AU.

So I wouldn't worry just yet.

The radio frequency could be the AM (medium wave) - in the US stations are 10MHz apart, but in UK & Europe they are 9MHz apart. And DAB has many "different" standards - even the UK is not fully compatible with some parts of Europe apparantly...

Or it might be the frequency for the remote control?
