The boost target is probably set too aggressive in the tune and the PID's are trying to hit those targets and can't up top. Did you have the tune adjusted?

No adjustment mainly as it was potentially a boost leak. That was ruled out and I haven't had any adjustments done. The plan is to replace the stock WGA and finalize the tune with that.

I really appreciate all the info you guys are providing, it's really good stuff.

Figured it out. The 10PSI spring wasn't able to keep stable boost in the upper range. The fix? Adding a 7psi middle spring for a total WG pressure of 17psi. Ran a perfect 17psi with the WG disconnected and cleaned up the WGDC perfectly on the tune when buttoned back up. The inefficiency issue of the stock exhaust housing showed it's rear as the car made a few pounds more across the board once the spring pressure was strong enough to let the waste gate work. The boost was then dialed back a hair and it runs like a raped ape.

Awesome I think your the first with a 17psi spring, any downsides to this??

that sounds odd , I would think 10lb would be enough with a electronic bleeder valve .

See what MAP says , only thing that might be on these small exhaust housing is back pressure is going way higher than normal (for given boost) .

I take it you can only uses higher than stock WG pressure with a tune as I would guess may cause code to trigger .

I would think at same boost total your mid range boost be better , not top end .

Right? The culprit is the small housing creating backpressure that's working against it.

I wouldn't run it without a tune as I think the WGDC should be checked and adjusted for efficiency.

My midrange is much better and it peaked at higher boost (blow dryer boost) without dialing it back. Essentially it was better across the board. Dialing back left me with a great midrange and solid boost all the way up to redline with the same boost levels as it had.

What is your boost target? I have the 10psi Spring, originally had the 7 Psi, have a part number handy on that middle 7psi spring? I may have to try it as well.

Boost target is nothing crazy, I'm around 25-26. You will need to log and have adjustments made to ensure you don't overboost a bit.

The spring made the wastegate more effective thus it wasn't leaking at higher RPM's anymore. This gave me a few extra pounds of boost up top. While it was very nice to have, it's not the greatest for longevity on stock rods. Once the boost was trimmed down I am enjoying a killer mid-range with boost that builds instantaneously, no wavering of part-throttle boost pressure, and a solid boost curve that does what it's told.

Part number is TS-0505-2003, they are also available for like $30 on amazon.

As far as rods, lower end , I be more worried in the low-mid range when surge of boost hits , IMO this is were you need to be careful .
Once boost load kind of stabilizes you should be good unless you go way high rpm wise (don't know if or how much adjustment on rev limit there is ).

Agreed, I should elaborate that it is still very linear, just missing the "softness" I was experiencing with the stock IWG.

I just saw the XR4ti below your name, it's been awhile since I've seen mention of those, the Capri RS turbo, or any of the other cool cars from "the day". Cool.

I actually just got ride of it not to long ago (had it over 25yrs ) also bent 3 out 4 of its rods :)

StangTV did. IMO it's not about dyno numbers but rather ensuring there is %100 control and not leavling anything on the table.

So everyone is talking about Wastegates and boost levels. Is it possible to adjust or replace the stock on without a tune. I'm looking at a tune in the future but not now. I have the MAP CAI and Muffler delete. I've check and read all the TS IWG data sheets but requiring a tune was not mentioned.

Please go easy on me, I've had trucks and SUV's not turbo cars..

Thank you :hail:
