Damn...18 mpg is pretty much what i get on my sixxer.
Over 900 miles of driving that most of was "city" (10-mile commute to work though backroads with stoplights) and 4 auto-x events, I averaged 17.8 mpg.
To me that's an excellent result given maybe 10% of it was highway cruising and auto-x isn't very mpg friendly.

That's what im saying tho...the dealers talk the average buyer into the EB with more features. Then a few months later they want GTs. I just think the people that walk into dealers and buy V6s know they want a cheap base model car when they leave their house and go get one. That's why you don't see any v6 guys trading up.
Can't talk for everybody who buys a V6, but the reason I got one over the V8 is because I didn't want to be at the pump every other day, sure the extra 135 hp would be way more fun but in a few years when the novelty wears off I'd be stuck with a thirsty DD.

300hp variable valve timing is nothing to sniff at. It's making more power than the V8 did 6 years ago. It's a great engine.

Why did I not get the ecoboost? Because it's a brand new engine... It most likely will have teething problems because it's new. I wanted ease of use and reliability. The V6 is a simpler engine. It's been around for years, it's had the kinks ironed out. It has better technology than Honda VTEC engines we're always being told about. That it's cheaper than the ecoboost is a bonus.

As for the options? Yeah it sucks, but you know what. I can get leather katzkin seats off eBay for $600. I can get pull of exhausts off GTs for little money. There are ways around the options just because they're not offered.

The novelty of everything wears off eventually. I was turning my head three times on the walk to home/work after parking my car to take in just how awesome the S550 is...

3 weeks later.. Not so much. Still a fantastic car, but ... You know..

The most beautiful woman has a man tired of banging her.

And I'm not knocking the V8 or ecoboost one bit. They are fantastic cars.

I'm not racing mine so been fine with the ecoboost. Has enough power to keep me out of trouble. Did tune it to get a little more bang for my buck but overall very happy with it. Only concern is how the reliability will be on this car in the long term being a new engine design and first model year. 5.0 is faster for sure and proven reliability. Big price difference though and I worry about gas prices shooting up so extra mpgs are nice since 90% of the time I'm in crazy traffic anyway.

I'm not really concerned at all with reliability on a stock ecoboost motor. Tuned I'd be concerned some. But I think either tuned or stock it should still be running strong for years to come.
I dd a f150 for a few years. I'll never get over the feeling of pumping gas all the time and watching my money go down the drain. Gas at that time was super expensive but it taught me a good lesson. It was a tough pill to swallow and I told myself I'd never be in that position again. The Gt gets a little better mileage than my f150 did but not a whole lot. I likely would have never owned another mustang again if not for the ecoboost motor. I'm glad I made the decision I did because I recently went from a job where I was driving 8 miles one way to now having a job where I drive 29 miles one way. The mpg I'm getting in my ecoboost is fantastic. And yes it can haul the mail when its needed. I love my car and I hope you guys (gt, v6, eco) enjoy your cars as much as I do. When you get to that point where it puts a smile on your face all the time it really doesn't matter what's under the hood.

I got mine in December and I still always look back at it when walking away from it.
Yeah the novelty does wear a bit but new mods help rekindle it alot. Same can be said for almost any car.

Nice try to explain the purchase but trust - V8 power does not wear off :) Not in months and not in years.

well, i certainly dont think it looks as good as it used to back when i picked it up, but hearing that cold start, the exhaust note when it's under load, and the way it pulls to 7k rpms still gets me every time.

Don't think I've seen a V6 to GT yet on here...has anyone done that?
Nope. I knew what I was getting with the V6, and it's enough for me to have fun.

Sure I'd take a GT, but not for 10 grand. It's a big jump in price, to a totally different price class. I wouldn't be spending that much on a toy, no matter the brand. So thoughts of a GT are like thoughts of a Maserati or Lambo. You buying it for me? No? Then I'm good with my V6 :headbang:

I'd guess that EB buyers are already spending money close to a GT. That's going to encourage people to switch up to the more powerful option.

Full bolt on is one thing. Doing a turbo swap on the EB is a lot of money. I will get a GT before I swap turbos in this car.
