I ran my car for the first time with the Nitto NT05Rs tonight and I broke the driver side axle on the 4th pass. I slipped the clutch out at 3000 and it broke the axle going to 3rd gear. I knew I was taking a chance but I thought the were stronger. I wish I had launched the car harder now LOL.

Yeah I thought they might break but I expected more. I did not launch the car that hard and it was not wheel hopping. It broke when I shifted into 3rd. If it helps at all I was giving a corvette a bad night. I was about 5 cars out by 3rd gear. Part of me wants to trade the car in for an automatic.

Badass about having fun with the Vette.
At least the half shafts won't break again!

Wow, I just mounted nto5s and was expecting to head to the drags next week with them. Should I bring a trailer? What were your times b/f you shafts busted? Also, what was your tire pressure when you broke? Just curious. Sorry to hear this and I have actually toying with trading mine for an auto with 3.55. They seem to be faster, as my friend ran 12.40s stock. Good luck with your upgrade my friend.

That's exactly the route I went. Traded my '11 GT manual for a '14 GT automatic since I drag race a lot. I've made nearly 200 passes down the 1/4 mile with my '14 GT automatic with no problems, and my car runs mid 11's leaving the line at 5,000 rpm's with short times in the 1.59 to 1.64 range consistently.

Whether you keep the '15 manual or trade for an automatic, you really need to buy the upgraded half shafts. The rest of the drivetrain is bulletproof so you can get back to rippin' through the 1/4 mile.

That's very depressing. I am going the same route and I figured stock half shafts would be fine as long as I didn't launch hard. I don't feel like spending $1200 or more for half shafts on top do drag radials and new rims. Ugh!!!

That really sucks. How was your sixty times before the snafu? I know the vocal manual transmission crowd likes to sound off on the automatic. But if your a drag racer the Automatic is the way to go. Ease of operation. Less breakage. Better E/Ts.

I am worried about chasing the weak links. If I knew the axles would fix it I would be good but the clutch failure concerns me. I don't like being stranded at the track. The tires were hooking really inconsistent. My best 60ft was only a 1.95 which I have done on street tires. I had 20lbs in them. They seemed to like a good healthy burnout to get them to hook really well. I think my last 60ft was good but I was too busy getting towed in to see. I would like to trade it in on a stock automatic but I am concerned I would take a huge hit.

I did run a 12.67 at 112 early when it was 85 plus degrees. The car was screaming on the last pass because the air was much better. It did get to eat a newer camaro with drag radials on it before it died LOL.

The axles are the only weak link, the trans and driveshaft have been proven. The clutch depends on how u drive.I think when u get ur axles u will be happy.I just dont get why some are lasting alot longer then others even with dr on them.Did the guy in the white gt show up with his drag radials?

Replace the axles and get BMR stop the hop fixes. You will be fine. Stock clutch is fine until 550+.
