Im at a crossroads. I am 2 months shy of the end of my current deployment and am cross shopping these cars.

my list is ecoboost vs wrx or sti vs gt.

my question is about the premium drive modes. I don't care for leather or navigation. so are the drive modes that important to have? how often do you use them?

this will be a DD car, which ever I choose if I buy a mustang, so is the premium package worth the extra coin for drive modes alone?

last mustang I had was a 12 boss and im looking for something cheaper and fun.

I had to have the upgrade, the option of having a happy switch was too irresistible! I got the 400A option and I'm Always flipping it into Sport mode.

I suggest you get the Mustang brochure, flip to the back, and then study what comes on the base car, followed by what comes on the Premium car. You can also do this via window stickers.

The difference is basically all the things that add up to the phrase "nicely equipped", IOW all the little luxuries and conveniences that some (not all) of us appreciate.

Also, beware that the 8" screen in the Premium car does NOT imply that navigation is included. Nav is an $800 option.

I like all the features of the premium, if you're not sure, just go for it so you don't regret it later. Heated and cooled seats are nice to have too

heres another weird ? base once tuned, would the throttle response equal that of the sport+ mode in a premium (since I assume this would be the default ppl would put the cars into w/ a premium). does that make sense?

I usually forget to change my settings unless I'm thinking ahead. Stock they're all different. With a tune or blower etc, I think mine are all the same except torque management. I run standard with AdvanceTrac off or traction control off, usually. Sport mode was my go to on stock tuning.

You would likely get better throttle response on a base GT with a tune than you would with the premium sport+ mode.

I will say I got the premium and love it. I had a titanium fusion that spoiled me with creature comforts and I don't think I can ever go back now.

Point is if you want to stay stock for a while (no tuning) then the premium would definitely be a good way to go for better throttle response. Normal throttle kinda sucks

You world definitely have a different throttle mapping on a tune and it would have to be much more pronounced than setting changes on a stock car.

Premium might have a better resale value down the road too.

I was in a similar position; I specifically didn't want leather seats, pony projection lamps, colour adjustable interior lighting, and most of the rest of the stuff that comes with Premium. I was looking more for the "stripped down" aesthetic; beauty in simplicity.

I would have liked the larger touchscreen and the toggle switches, but in general they don't do anything that I can't do on a base without them. You can still select default (all stability control and traction control on), sport (both stability control and traction control decreased), and track (stability control and traction control completely off) with a base, as well as adjust steering similarly. Wet/snow? Adjust with your right foot.

So I went base and perf package, and am very happy with it. It's not a daily driver, it's a track car. That being said, I would make the identical decision again for a daily driver. It's all about what your preferences are.

YMMV

Agreed. That's a good consideration. No doubt Premium will have a higher resale value. (Personally, I plan to keep my Mustang until it goes to the scrap yard.)

that's the idea I have about my next buy. I plan to own it for a very long time if not forever.

Trying out the mode, I think there is more to it than throttle control. It actually feels like timing is pulled back some to take things.

BTW base has all the drive modes, you just need to mess with the traction control button to access them. Does not have adjustable shocks though. Premium pack adds 100-200 lbs in weight to the eco, which really needs to be as light as you can get it.
