So I definitely gave this a shot, but I got about to the part where I took the needle nose vice grips to the spring. Then I found out that spring is just waaaaayyyy too difficult to compress with the vice grips.

I mean, I don't have the greatest forearm strength, but I didn't think it was going to be that difficult. I even had someone step on the clutch pedal for me and I tried to squeeze that SOB with both arms as best as I could. The guys in the videos seemed to be able to use just one hand on the vice grips.

Any tips/advice for this? In the meantime I'm going to the gym to do some forearm curls.

try using wire ties to hold the two center coils compressed.

get pliers, push clutch in, compress both center coils with pliers, let go of clutch, wiggle it out

I didn't get - are you trying to remove the spring or to put it back in place? :)

Whoops forgot to specify, my bad. I'm trying to remove the spring. I disengaged the clutch which stretches the spring...way too much for my tiny arms to get the vice grips to clamp on it.

what I did when I was experimenting with the spring - I took the thick screwdriver (philips or flat - doesn't really matter), depressed the clutch to the floor, point screwdriver through the spring until I reached the black plastic cover in the back of the pedal and used the screwdriver as a lever easily compressing the spring and removing it from the upper "fasterner". Be careful - spring can fly away :) It took me few seconds to do it and nothing was broken. I took me 20 minutes to put the spring back :)

Yeah I watched that video several times. I keep trying to get the vice grip to clamp on those two middle coils but I just couldn't.

What made you end up re installing the spring?

I didn't like loose pedal when it is almost released.

Inconsistent and vague pedal feel were my only complaints about my car. Removing the spring made a huge difference for me. Just feels more connected.

I drive in pretty heavy traffic daily and still prefer the spring removed. I'd estimate it at 30% stiffer, but I like that it feels more controllable.
