Redline Hood Strut Install

This is a great product and an easy install. I do have a couple of tips.....1st: technically the way the stickers are on the struts there's a left & a right if you don't pay attention the Redline sticker will be upside down when installed. 2nd: when you realize you've put them on backwards there's a HUGE hole in the fender where the strut drops all the way to the bottom behind the plastic fender well...this is in the last pic. Ask me how I know lol. Now maybe the instructions tell you these things....but do you think I read the instructions....no. I'm really happy with this product...no longer using my helmet or a broom handle to hold the hood open!

My Ford Motorsport Struts from Hillbank didn't come with those red nuts that fit in the fender hole. They came with some awful steel thing that didn't work worth a crap. I had to make my own inside nuts or the bracket would turn. The Hillbank ones are re-badged Redline wonder what happened with the nuts?

That's a good question that deserves an answer...I'm sorry that you had that experience.

I can't tell from the pictures, but If your battery cover doesn't sit flush after the install, you can make the hole bigger. That's what I did. The included step drill bit is not the right size IMO and the battery cover sits propped up after reinstalling.

I had a very similar experience. I actually bent the fender sheet metal because the nut will not seat properly. I ordered my Ford Performance hood struts from MAK Performance and left feedback with them on how displeased I was with the product, but never heard a word back from them. Really nicely done guys.

Ha! I installed mine last night also. Bad idea after a crappy day/ week at work. I was a walking zombie and found that same gap with my 13mm deep socket. It's still in there. Guess I'll have to pull the fender well cover off this weekend, lol! I've also thought about bumping the battery cover hole out to one inch.

I'm going to cut a straight line in the plastic towards the fender from the hole that's drilled, this way I do not have to disconnect the strut to access the battery.

The Hillbank ones are certainly NOT a re-badged Redline Tuning QuickLIFT system. They are a very bad and cheap COPY of our system without a proper retention system for the fender brackets. I'm sorry to hear that you had to find that out the hard way.

I drilled my battery cover slightly bigger and used heavy duty shears to slice to the outside edge...that made the install perfect! The struts and hardware are top quality!
