For the last couple of weeks I've been seriously thinking about trading in my automatic v6 for a stick shift, but I know I'll lose a good amount of money for the trade in. I only have about 2500 miles on the car. Should I just suck it up and keep the automatic or patiently wait until I find a good deal on a manual transmission v6? I want to start modding soon too, and if I decide to trade it in it could take a pretty long time until a good deal comes up. What do you guys think?

I've had the same experience with another brand of vehicle, and I took a hit on the trade-in price.

You will never get a reasonable trade-in value for your vehicle at the dealer. Consider getting your Mustang appraised at a reputable used car dealership. There are some national companies (Autonation, CarMax) that will give you a truer value than just running it back to Ford.

Keep it dude! You will lose money on a trade in and it doesn't make sense to trade it in for the same car just with a manual trans. If I'm going to lose money it's going to be for a better car lol

I guess that depends on your finical situation, but seems like a lateral move at best.

Personally this is my DD so I like not having to shift in traffic and I have an old Porsche for my manual "fix" when I want it. Even if I didn't have that car I wouldn't care too much about not shifting, but that is personal opinion.

The automatic is bullet proof, built here and you'll more likely than not get better straight line 0-60 times with it. Obviously, trading it in would not be a good financial decision. If you really want a stick shift, maybe save up for a year or two and trade up to used 15 GT with the stick? Should take a less of a hit then and by that time would be slightly more justifiable.

Your going to hemorrhage money if you trade. Either sell it privately or live with the automatic. A tune really brings the automatic to life from a performance stand point.

You might be surprised how well you could end up honestly. ***Flame suit on*** Think about the car you bought. Automatic V6 is going to be very popular amongst all demographics of prospective buyers due to the price, looks, and drivability. Couple that with what seems to be a shortage of V6 options on dealer lots and you could find yourself in a good position if you go to the right dealer. On the flip side, the car you are trying to get into is the cheapest Mustang available, which also makes it desirable to prospective buyers so the deal may be harder on that side. You would really have to find the right dealer at the right time. I suggest one with a 6MT V6 on the lot without an Auto V6. Put yourself in a better negotiating position.

For example I had to sell my Veloster before I moved to Japan. I bought the car as a bare bones base 6MT in November 2011 for $17,200. I sold the car back to the same dealership in May 2013 with 14,000 miles on it for $16,500 because they needed a MT Veloster on the lot. I assume they already had a buyer lined up so I feel like I won out on that deal. There is no guarantee so shop around and see what you find. I wouldn't worry about the mods because all of the available mods can be swapped to a new car if you go that route.

Automatic is fun in sport mode. My previous car was a manual and after 5 years of stop & go city driving I got sick of it. I'll echo what socalmustang asked, why did you get an auto to begin with? Modern autos are extremely good and tend to get better MPG as well as better/more consistent 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I'm going auto for my DD from here on out. Obviously this is personal preference and depends on what you use the car for.

It's true. I had good leverage due to building a relationship with the salesman and it being the end of the month (supposidly it was the end of the month and they wanted to sell another car before the day was over. ) Got extremely lucky.

What made you want to trade your EB in? Did you regret getting it?

I had plans of modding the cap out of it to make decent power, then I relized I had no time for that. 4th kid is on the way. I just realized i needed something already quick that I wouldn't have to mod. Most I'll do is a cai, catback, and a tune... and thats if I have time to get away from the kids.

Anyway, I really like the Ecoboost stangs. They are more fun to drive and seem more fun to tinker with than the GT. I wish I could have stayed with one I had, but I wanted more power up front, in the end.

Although, my ecoboost smoked just sitting at a stoplight... and mine was stock. No aftermarket DP or anything. That was also a motivator. Other than that it was perfect to me. Dealer didn't know wtf to do.
