I am planning on buying a winter beater. We don't get bad winters, but we do have horrible drivers. I would much rather be hit in a turd of a truck than in the mustang.

I am not too worried about maintenance. Parts are still cheap for old minitrucks.

If the winters aren't bad, probably isn't much different than driving (road condition wise) in the summer most days, no?

We still get a few inches of snow at a time. Usually only 2-4 inches at worst, but we are bad at cleaning it off and I'm in a pretty hilly area. So it is worse than normal summer driving.

Also we are under 45 most days of the winter so summer tires won't cut it

Fellow KC resident, just picked up my GT with Performance Pack a few weeks ago. I had Blizzaks on my RX-8 and got by in winter just great. I'll be getting another set for the Mustang, for what that's worth.

I'm in NYC where we have random insane blizzards every few years on top of regular snow and I see RWD cars doing just fine with winter tires as long as your ride isn't slammed. A winter beater is just not worth the year round trouble of having to register, insure, park and main another vehicle that you won't even touch for most of the year.
