So what are you guys, who have snow tires, doing when the temperatures are as crazy as they are this season? Are you switching back and forth? Leaving them on?

I heard that snow tires are not good above 45* and are unsafe at 60+. I want to put snow tires but the weather is just crazy here. Goes down to 20 comes back up to 60, then 30, then 50.

What would the experts recommend?

Snow tires are meant for the ice and snow, if the temp gets warmer ( like after winter) switch back to a performance summer tire.

but it seems like in your case the weather is just getting to be weird youll be fine just even when its warm done push it too much since the tire isnt really meant for it, another thing is dry none snow conditions will cause the tire to wear out faster.

The only problem with running snow tires in warm weather is that you will wear out the treads on them very quickly...they have much softer rubber compounds in them than most tires. On a 'stang, you will probably also get worse performance than either an all season or a summer-only performance tire.

They will be fine above 45 and they will be safe above 60, the only thing they will do is wear faster. Pending compound as mentioned above, some will wear faster than others but honestly I wouldn't say it would be worth it to switch out unless its going to be 1-2 weeks of constant warm temps.

Today I bit the Bullet. Got Michelin X-ICE Xi3. Great deal from a local shop. With a $100.00 Visa card back.

Will keep ya posted how they hold up. They are a "H" rated tire with 40,000 warranty. Which is unheard of on a Snow tire.

Blizzak LM32s on the stock GT PP wheels are V rated. There are some in 20" sizes that are even W rated.

My car with winter tires has been getting no action for 2 weeks due to this warm weather. I'm looking forward to this weekend when the temperature drops below 45 degrees. then next week it will be over 55 degrees again. damn it
I thought about putting back the summer tires but decided against it because of the cost, hassle, and the possible scratches to the rims by installers
