More concerned with the feel than looks. May be the best option. Best of both worlds.
Exactly what I was thinking. Should keep tempatures lower while still maintaining a metallic look. In terms of functionality I'm trying my best to find the perfect dimensions! I don't want the toggle to wiggle or rattle so tight tollerences are required. That is what will take some time to finish. The fine tuning of dimensions...

What about a rubberized coating? It'll give a good feel and kill any rattles.

A few of my hunting rifles have rubberized coatings called dura-coat, and they feel great. No issues with durability in the last two years either.

It comes down to manufacturing cost... To do a rubberized coating would mean printing/casting the part in a ridged material then coating it with the finish. This adds an extra step to the process and has the chance of peeling and degrading over time. So while some big companies can do this, it is not feasible to do in a small production run such as this.

Fair enough, I was under the impression that the above was a form of coating.

The above is actually alumide particles mixed in with the nylon plastic during the 3d printing peocess! Should be pretty durable and resistant to wear that a button or toggle would see.

Rendering of the final toggle design. Let me know what you think about the text... I need something there for the backlight function and didn't just want to redo the symbol. The D has supports for the center because the text is a cutout of the part. This will allow the use of a non transparent material further simplifying the manufacturing process.

I think I am going to go with shapeways for the manufacturing! The best part about their site too is that I will be able to list the models for sale! What will happen is that whenever someone orders a set they will handle the sale and print the parts on demand and ship directly to you!
