The Corvette Z51 weighs 3450lbs... It's ALL aluminum..., smaller brakes, wheels, tires suspension and its 10 inches shorter and has a 4 inch shorter wheelbase.

Last Gen they were 800lbs apart... be thankful for anything that starts in the high 3700 range.
Remember that was a fully loaded C7 with Mag ride and same size brakes as the new Camaro SS. So the Camaro will be about 300lbs more with mag ride. Which sounds about right considering the dimensions difference.

Are people actually expecting the new Camaro to weigh less than a BMW M235i ..?
lulz...

If anything, it will be within 50lbs of the Mustang. And still have piss-poor visibility.

When even Camaro owners and loyalists over on Camaro6 are expressing doubts the Camaro6 thought police and enforcers (IOMike and ULTRA ZL1 or whatever his name is) quickly badger them into silence and accuse them of all sorts of things.

When someone brought up the discrepancy between what GM said the ATS-V weighs and what it's been tested at they were quickly shut up.

I think the car will be lighter, but not by as much as they hope. I'm thinking 3,750 for a 1SS manual and 3,775 for an auto. +50lbs to both for a 2SS.

Btw, as recently as 4 months ago the Corvette forum had posts of LT1's failing at under 20,000 miles, then the replacement had metal shavings and dust in the heads.

I can get a 1SS to weigh 3750lbs BUT, the V6 needs to start at 3570. That's 50lbs heavier than the ATS Coupe Auto V6. I need to check but, I think that 3530 is sedan weight... I seen the first ATS Coupe V6 weigh 3570 (checking)... It will be rough to beat that... Let's face it, the Alpha BIW is probably 80-120lbs lighter than the Alpha Camaro.

That's a huge deficit.

The Mustang looks to be about 40-60lbs heavier in white and still turned out lighter than the V. The Mustang is smaller in some respects, such as wheelbase.

The Mustang looks to be lighter than the ATS-V by about 70lbs on average but it has a heavier BIW by about 60-80lbs.

I really don't think there's any room for a larger car between the two. Sure Caddy may have heavier interior but the Camaro is massive with massive 20 inch wheels.

If your very lucky, a Base 1SS will weigh between the GTPP and ATS-V Coupe TP. Both equipped with Recaro's.

If they can match the ATS-V Coupe TP/Recaro weight at 3760lbs, I'd be happy if I were a Camaro fan.

I don't have a single problem with the visibility. It's all a matter of positioning the mirrors correctly. As a car is about to go out of view in my rearview, it shows up in my side mirror. And just as it's about to go out of the side mirror, I can see it with lateral vision without turning my head. Most people just want to complain about it w/o trying to adjust the mirrors properly. Granted, visibility COULD be improved, but I don't think it's that bad at all.

Every brand has their bad ones...... LOVED my Ranger but the Escort's transmission issues sucked big time

The weight thing will be interesting. Usually you get some type of non-answer or a very political answer when you ask a MFR about weight. With the C7, they said it lost 100 lbs, but that turned out to be the chassis only. With the Mustang Ford only said that they had met their internal weight targets. It is rare IMO to hear someone give such specific numbers, even comparing trim level to trim level. I would normally expect them to say that it had lost 300 lbs, and then end up comparing a ZL1 to a base V6.

So, this time around GM is being pretty specific, which makes me wonder if they really have hit those targets. Or maybe they are full of it and just hope people will forget by the time the car is released. Either way, it'll be fun to watch! I honestly don't have an expectation any more, but if GM is to be believed, I'd guess the following based on the weights in the spec sheet posted earlier:
V6 = 3450 lbs
V8 = 3700 lbs

If they hit those numbers, then I would say they weren't lying. If the cars are much heavier, well....business as usual for GM.

I could be wrong, but I believe they've never actually stated trim level such as 1SS to 1SS. They simply say model to model or v6 to v6 and v8 to v8.
