2016 Mustangs are being scheduled, serialized, etc. for stock units. Ford doesn't start scheduling or serializing customer orders (retail orders) until the "okay to buy" by Ford. However, 2016 retail orders can still be submitted; they'll just sit in the queue for awhile.
Trying to understand the logic here. It must be, "let's get cars on the lots that maybe someone will want to buy, versus taking good care of the customers we KNOW want to buy".

Someone mentioned in another thread that the real customer of Ford is the dealer, not the end buyer so this begins to make sense, unfortunately.

I agree, what is the since in having a priority system if you aren't abiding by it. Stock orders are supposedly a lower priority from what I was under the impression of.

At the beginning of each model year, Ford builds stock units first and holds off scheduling customer cars until there are no production issues. So, if there are early problems or recalls, it only affects dealer stock, not customer cars. See the logic now?

After the okay to buy is given, customer orders are absolutely a higher priority than stock inventory.

Makes sense, rather have a. car without issues. Do you suspect the okay will be given quicker than the 15s since this is the second year of production?

I suspect we won't get VINs until after August 3rd then if that is what is being done.

I can see some logic in what Brian said but still it's going to hurt if I see a '16 sitting on the lot while I'm still waiting for mine.

I know when I ordered my 2010, it was the first one sold in my town. I have no idea if it was "stock" or "retail" though.

Yes, 2016 okay to buy should come quicker than it did for the 2015's.

I already have a bunch of 2016 Mustangs serialized and scheduled - all are stock units, of course. None of our retail (customer) orders are scheduled yet. Ford already has the first few weeks of 2016 production scheduled, by the way.

Does this mean that no retail orders are scheduled before the OTB? Are we talking days, weeks or months for this proclamation?

Any one know of when the date is? Does that have any effect on ordered cars?My dealer told me that he would have to wait until Ford gave the go ahead to order the car. He said something about needing to order the car as "retail" instead of "stock".
From the zone rep to my dealer on July 21st:

"There was no 2016 Mustang scheduling this week. The reason why this unit hasn’t scheduled is because we haven’t hit OKTB on 2016 Mustang. The "OK to buy" is scheduled for August 31, 2015. If the OK to buy is granted retail scheduling begins Thursday, September 3, 2015."

Confirmed by Ford Service (Dehysa) on July 22nd. If all goes "according to plan" retail orders should begin production on September 7th.

That is all...

I just reordered my retail into a stock. How long approximately should I be able to get my Stang?
